Is there anyway that the Democratic Legislature can change the laws in time so that we can get another Democrat(Barney Frank) to take Kerry's place in the senate???

10. i'm speaking
off the top of my head from our LocaL news and papers. romney wants to appoint (obviousLy) but the dems have the super-super-majority in the state LegisLature (yet amazingLy, they don't have a majority that supports gay marriage) so the biLL wiLL go through.

this wiLL affect nothing in the grand scheme when taLking about 'pLaying into repubs hands' on 'steaLing the seat'. 3/4's of our state popuLation (Last poLL they showed) want a speciaL eLection.

11. Thank You.
Anyone who talks about "playing into repubs hands", just remind them about Tom Delay's littel coup in Texas.

7. Yes, it is unconstitutional.
Article 1, Section 6. "...no person holding office under the United States shall be a member of either house during his continuance in office."

5. Kerry should have resigned from the senate in time to run a replacement..
If he and the DLC are so confident they can win the White House, why wouldn't he have freed up the Senate seat for Frank, or another Democrat?

Trying to change the laws just because of Kerry will only play right into the right wingers' games. I've already heard this being compared to the 2002 move to substitute Lautenberg for that piece of shit Torricelli.

12. Do you really think they're that confident, I don't. I think they're.
well aware of how close it will be.

The law is a bad law, there are already a few states that do not allow the Governor to appoint. Why shouldn't the people of MA. be allowed to vote for who they want as their Senator?

In any case, Romney was given a big break on the residency requirement when he ran for Governor so he should be the last one to cry foul.

9. Every one of the ass kissing
memebers of the MA delegation are lining up to kiss Teddy K's ring for a chance to be annointed to run, but I've got a funny feeling JFK will be the Senior Senator from MA for quite some time.

15. But I think the good news may be
that whoever is appointed will have to face election in 2006. If I recall correctly, when someone is appointed to fill a senate vacancy, they have to run in the next general election - which will be considered a special election for that senate seat.
