Kerry-McCain Ticket....the Cons are all abuzz...
Correct me if I'm wrong, Folks. You guys are way more politically savvy than I. But I would be greatly disappointed if Kerry picked McCain for a V.P. I realize the political advantage -- but the man is antichoice, and we are at a critical juncture in terms of continuing to make women's rights a part of this Country's future. I want to tell my daughter that Mom successfully fought for her, and when she is old enough, that she is an equal citizen, and not just a piece-of-property/vessel. I only got the right to manage my own community property in 1981, for Great Spirit's sake! I worry that if he selected McCain -- he would be telling this liberal that her concerns didn't matter (nor my political involvement for the past year). And then I --- WOULD -- face a choice between Republican and Republican. Civil Rights, the most important issue for me -- actually coequal with bringing our troops home.

7. Oh, absolutely. Take Republicans at their word, right?
I'm just teasing. I know he wouldn't. But his claim that he wouldn't has as much weight as any other such denial from a politician-- none.

You got every point-- good to talk about, bad to actually do, and for the reasons you say. Trust your instincts, Luke. Um, LawStudentMom, I meant.

14. Lincoln-Johnson
of 1864 which was not the Republican ticket but the National Union ticket combining Republican Lincoln and Unionist Democrat Andrew Johnson. In the middle of the civil war this made sense. Today it doesn't make much sense to have a conservative republican on the Democratic ticket.

16. actually...
It would show how serious it is that we unite. this country hasn't been so polarized since the civil war. We need to unite with republicans, well-TRUE republicans, the government minimalists, and the small business idealists, sure our politics may differ, but the religious right and neo cons are about to de stablise the world, and as Mccain is a good man. Sure he is a republican but as a vp he would be great. What motivation does *ush have to NOT syria and iran if he gets re-elected? Kerry would still be #1 and bush would be gone, so no matter what it takes, that should be the goal.

From your link:

Abortion
Indicate which principles you support (if any) concerning abortion.
a) Abortions should always be legally available.

b) Abortions should be legal only within the first trimester of pregnancy.

X c) Abortions should be legal only when the pregnancy resulted from incest, rape, or when the life of the woman is endangered.

d) Abortions should be legal only when the life of the woman is endangered.

e) Abortions should always be illegal.

f) Abortions should be limited by waiting periods and notification requirements as decided by each state government.

X g) Prohibit the late-term abortion procedure known as "partial-birth" abortion.

X h) Prohibit public funding of abortions and public funding of organizations that advocate or perform abortions.

In addition, his c) "when the life of the woman is endangered" contradicts his g) "Prohibit the late-term abortion procedure known as "partial-birth" abortion." Late term abortion is almost always about the health of the mother, always has been, and historically a decision between the woman, her family, and her doctor.

19. Whats more important
1. Mccain as vp, bringing votes to help oust bush, regardless of his beliefs

2. Bush in power, with the backing of 99% of religious fundamentalists, who will bring about "the handmaids tale"

No matter how you slice it, his personal beliefs/positions can do nothing but help us, he would bring the republicans who agree with him, but wouldn't have the influence as vp to advance his position too much. And We have seen the extent bush will take it. Ideals are nice, but Bush co has the power right now.
