KS Gov. Sebelius for Veep |
|
She is a moderate Dem from a conservative state with a long history of working well with both parties. Add to it that he her father is a former Gov of Ohio and still popular there. She has ties to one of the hottest states this year and can help pull moderates and independents our way.
Anyone? (Maybe I am biased. I live in KS and worked on her campaigns, but hey, I gotta try)

4. Kansas cannot be a swing state? |
|
Her name is notoriously difficult to prononuce which is a negative (yes, might sound dumb but it is).
Don't know anything else about her.

5. If she just had a little more time in office.... |

Isn't this just her second year in office?
I certainly believe she has a place on the national stage over the next decade or so.

8. Yes. This is her weakest point. |
|
She was elected Gov in 2002 so it is early in her second year (but wrapping up the second term with the Legislature).

9. Landrieu is a far better choice in my opinion |

She stepped on the GOP's streak and that I think that she would complement Kerry the best. Considering I've never heard Sebelius speak, I have to go on just what I've read and seen about her compared to Landrieu. And I think that Mary is really more of a more prepared national candidate. Her looking younger and more attractive is another reason, but also Mary seems more capable of being able to inspire people. Although Mary comes from a politically powerful family, I think Sebelius being the child of a governor would be an impediment not a plus, considering the resentment alot of people have towards the already son-of-priveledge race this already is.
And most of all, Kerry has zero chance of winning Kansas before all but a few states are won by him. Louisiana on the other chance is on the cusp of being a swingstate

11. As a senator I'd say she's alright, nothing too special |

She's no Schummer, Wellstone, Feingold, or Kennedy but considering that Louisiana is the only state in the deep south to not be overrun by Republicans, I'll take what I can get. Frankly I think she casts a lot of her votes in the shadow of our senior senator John Breaux who is a centrist and a negotiator between both sides of the isle. Breaux is no Zell Miller and is a great help to the democrats here in Louisiana but he does vote with the Republicans on a great number of issues and thus so does Mary. She did face a tough re-election but her opponent was a brainless Republican who didn't stand for anything except rubber-stamping Bush's policies. Overall I think she'd be a solid choice for VP, but I wouldn't necesarilly expect Kerry to take Louisiana or any southern states just because she is on the ticket.

10. That was my prediction about a month ago |
|
She would be a very good candidate. She is moderate on fiscal issues and showed bipartisanship in having a republican as Lt. Governor and putting GOPers in other positions which might get some positive press if she is selected. Also, she has moderate views on economic issues but is opposed the death penalty, is solidly pro-choice and supports some gun control. Plus, she is a woman and in our current political environment I think that helps because it doesn't seem like many men vote against women because they are female but it does seem like more women vote for women because they are female.

She's too obscure (Sebeliwho?), has no foreign policy experience whatsoever, and won't deliver any key states.
