Not trying to start a Gore rumor thread again, but can anyone explain |
|
why Gore was in Charleston, S.C. today meeting with Rep. Jim Clyburn?
I saw them this morning, at a restaurant on Sullivan's Island (a few miles from Charleston) having breakfast. There was no huge fuss around them, but people were greeting him politely.

1. Did you wave hello in passing? |
|
I know it's rude to interrupt or ask for an autograph - but I would have had to at least send him a smile.
As for the meeting... Old friend? Green Initiative?

I would have had to go out of my way to get to their table and I didn't want to do that. Not just because it would have been out of my way, but it would have been obvious and I'm kind of shy as it is. :)
Your theory about the meeting could be true. I've got mine but I want to hear others.

and 6 months ago I was begging Gore to run. HRC was my last choice. Her debate performances have me convinced she is going to be even better than Bubba.

37. In all seriousness I say that they flip a coin |
|
Have both Hillary and Barack come into the room, Hillary is heads Barack is tails, and either Al Gore or Howard Dean flips a coin. They both agree to come out of the room supporting whoever wins the coin toss.
IMO both of them have very good claims to why they should be the nominee and the loser is going to be bitter of Gore, Cuomo, Carter, Clyburn, etc. picks one over the other. I say that we tell them both that they are both equally qualified to be the nominee and both have equally good cases as to why they should be the nominee and therefore the only way to do this fairly is by arbitrary means.

Then my theory would have to be |
|
The Party is lining up SD's behind the scenes to make a stand to pressure Clinton to cease her dirty campaign.
That or actually to end the race.
But Im thinking they would rather let this play out to the convention and they want to end the divisive campaign Hillary is waging and force her to back off on throwing mud.
(I would prefer they just obtain a mass SD move towards our front runner to end it now, but Im not sure the Party has the required attachments to do that.)

He has more power staying neutral at this point, and likely in the near future.
Had he endorsed anyone, he'd be nothing more than another surrogate. They're a dime a dozen.

10. Honestly, I don't know. There was a lot of local coverage here when |
|
we had our primary back in January and I SEEM to remember him staying neutral. However, he did speak out somewhat about the alleged race-baiting comments from Bill Clinton.
As far as I know (and again, I could be wrong) he has not pledged to either candidate.

14. It could be a number of things |
|
It could just be Gore hanging out with a friend or...
It could be that they're discussing some global warming legislation, or...
It could be that they're discussing FISA or some other non-global warming related bills in Congress, or...
It could be that Gore's discussing some new project nobody knows about yet but Gore...
It could be that Gore's discussing the state of the Super Delegates, since Gore is one of the most logical choices to negotiate a peace treaty between Clinton and Obama, if such a thing is necessary, or...
It could be that Gore's testing the waters to see if he could be drafted, if the convention totally deadlocks and neither Clinton nor Obama can lock up the nomination and neither is willing to concede.
I think this last is the least likely, but it is within the realm of the possible.

to decide about "Super Delegates" and how they would vote...splitting between Hillary and Obama.
I would wish that something would happen and Gore could "come in" ...but it seems he's been chosen to be a "Mediator?" :-( Deciding an election he was forced to stay out of. Bitter Fruit....Bitter Fruit...

30. I agree. They may approach the candidates with some sort |
|
of deal sooner than later.
I honestly think this is what the Clinton campaign is playing for right now. I also think it is their *hope* that Obama will tell the elders to pound sand, and she thinks that might swing them to her side where she wins outright.
I think he will accept the offer to lead the ticket, but may *choose* to be VP. Being the next president will not be a bed of roses with all of the cleanup that is needed. I think a one term president is in our near future no matter who gets it.

32. The economy is sick, and the medicine tastes horrible. |
|
Democrats will hold our candidate's feet to the fire about bringing troops home, and providing health care. There will be a good number of them that will demand prosecution of the Bush regime, but the new adminstration will be up to their ass in fixing things that they consider even more major than that. We need to eliminate the Bush tax cuts to lower the deficit AND cut spending on programs that are already strapped for cash to get back on keel, but the extra revenue is being promised to provide health care.
We will likely be in a recession, with the banking crisis still looming. There will be trade deals to renegotiate, and more restrictions will lead to higher prices. The country cannot be returned to the right direction overnight, we have a political judiciary and Supreme Court that will impede progress where it can.
There will be some very tough decisions and some bitter medicine in our near future, and Bush won't do any of that before he leaves. He will throw as many roadblocks up and plunder as much as he can on the way out.
Not to be a downer, but no one, even the Democratic base, *especially* the Democratic base will turn on the administration when reality sets in.
