Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 10:34 PM by seabeyond
some people have issue with low count cause they associate it with freepers. i am not and even if a person is a freeper, i dont care. not why i am posting. but in this room, i have just seen so many new people. i am wondering if du address was posted somewhere or something to make people aware of this site.

just curious all.

2. I hang out on other message boards, like MSNBC and I use to help run a now defunk progressive board.
I've known of the DU for a while, but never bothered to join until Jan of last year. I let the account sit dormant for a while until my old message board finally went completely offline.

8. I'm fairly new to this site, but I've been around message boards long enough.....
to know that there are plenty of regulars with multiple ID's that they hide behind.

I always find it a shame that people have to create new identities to vent their frustrations and show their true character. This is one of the reasons I am so fed up with the MSNBC boards. It's filled with people from both sides that dual personalities, and the freepers run wild with racial slurs and MSNBC does nothing about it.

13. There is a song in everything, kentuck...
They're just out there, stumbling down the sidewalk and knocking on doors.

Sometimes we let 'em in, feed them and keep them warm.

Sometimes they just ramble on down the street until someone else lets them in.

I am just knocking around, tonight.

Got this thing in my head about an albino black kid I once met.

Kid named Bone, growing up in this insane fundie environment in Louisiana.

Said, "Look at me, Mister. Ain't I the whitest thang around?".

He told me that he kept his faith in the Lord, but he still slept with the light on.

I thought it fucking profound.

He was just a kid.

Started lurking under the screenname "Moridin" for maybe a year or so in the lead up to the 2004 primaries. No idea how I found the site originally. I forgot my password and the site completely for a few years. Stumbled across a link to the site again on Alternet.org right before the start of the primary season.

23. I've read DU almost daily for years
I found DU back in 2004. I post rarely because I read DU at work before starting time and lunch and check in during the day. I'm afraid to post from my work computer though, need the paycheck too much. We only have one computer at home and someone is usually on it and I have too much work to do anyway. I sometimes wonder if someone will see my low post count and be rude but no one ever has. I don't post anything too controversial though. I too have been suspicious of some of the more hostile threads started during these primaries. I don't believe the posters are actual democrats at all.

count doesn't necessarily mean newbie or freeper. During the stolen inauguration of the first Bush mightmare a friend called and said he found a website with some really cool Democrats. I have been lurking since. IIRC this friend saw a banner on TV advertising DU. Eight years of Bush have been long but you guys made it bearable.

Mostly because almost every time I thought about saying something, I'd find that someone else had just posted what I wanted to say. Pretty hard to beat folks in here with an original thought sometimes. And it doesn't seem worth it much to just say, "yeah, what you said."

I first came to DU in December 2007. I had become disgusted with the MSM political coverage and was surfing the internet. I was particularly interested in info about Chris Matthews sexist comments about Hillary. I ended up at media matters reading an article about media bias and then I followed some links that eventually brought me here. I started coming here several times a week and now I am here daily.:hi:

I feel like an addict! I know what you mean about living in a conservative area, I live in Oklahoma, and I've never heard of it going to blue. It's a good thing we have more than one TV, otherwise we'd be fighting over the channels. My hubby likes to glance and see what's going on every now and then, enough to keep informed, but I think I go overboard, I feel like I can never get enough information. I'm always seeking to learn more.

I like that Obama is so popular here. I like listening to Steph's show because she likes him, too, and calls Hillary on her Rovian tactics, like she is here at DU.

75. I've been lurking about for years...
In fact, long enough that I'd forgotten how I ended up here. I just didn't have much to say that didn't already get said by someone else.

82. Well, having a screen name
cuts down on the number of ads...

And seeing as I run my yap for a living, I guess it's a lot easier to keep quiet online.

89. it is... another opposite, hate crowds, can do one on one. but i can
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 01:25 PM by seabeyond
see hating people liking crowds. there is an anonymous. kinda like the whole lurking thing, being a part without.

my thing is whenever in a crowd i become center, and i dont try, dont want to be but always am so i tend to stay away. is like a light on me.

interesting huh. diversity. cool stuff.

92. If we ever met in person I think there would be a huge explosion...
like a matter/antimatter reaction. First of all, I love being the center of attention; which I suppose makes my job a whole lot easier. Even if I'm not in the center of attention, I'm near enough to the middle to get whatever points I need to get across to everyone else. When I'm talking to someone one on one, invariably I end up "talking" to someone who is really just looking for someone to talk at.

79. Long-time reader
I've been reading here since the 2004 election. Someone at the Kerry Campaign Headquarters told me about the site.

The reason I have never posted much is because this board moves SO FAST! By the time I think of what I want to say usually ten other people have said it. Or the thread is already gone from the first page and I can't find it. Or you make a post and then come back hours later and can't find the thread because it has fallen several pages down the list.

Still a great place to come to keep up on the latest events though.

84. A not new newbie...
I used to come here frequently. Way back in 2000 (?) someone here posted something on another site that he had written here and put the link up. But a couple of years ago my hard drive went poof and I lost all my favorite sites and passwords and just never signed up again with my new computer & ISP.

So I'm thinking that a lot of folks are just coming back now that we finally have a chance in the GE, especially with this hard fight between the dem candidates. And a lot of people were probably lurkers (of whom I've been one) for a long time, too.
