Time to roll out Wes Clark again |
|
Remember how Wes Clark devoted a portion of every campaign appearance to criticizing the Bush Administration's performance on terrorism BEFORE 9/11? And all our other candidates stood there and either admired his guts without saying anything or openly criticized him for it (Lieberman).
So then what happens? Clark with an 'e,' our good man Richard, comes out with a book that basically validates everything Wes was saying and puts BushCo on the defensive for the first time on 9/11.
The Dems could do worse than to get Wes some air time right now to talk about the Commission and the debacle in Iraq; basically make the same points he made all along during the campaign. Kerry keeps his hands clean while the four-star general does some serious damage.

We need to keep Bush on the defensive as long as we can. However, it might be best to wait till Clark is needed. For example, when the 9/11 commission starts to drop out of the news, then we bring out Clark and Bob Graham and all our surrogates.

2. And Clark would be very effective in articulating Iraq solutions |
|
America needs to hear solid solutions to the Iraq mess not just critique of Bush and Rummy's f*** ups. Hmmm as the VP nominee he could be Kerry's point man on Iraq and terrorism.

5. Kerry's VP: Wes Clark? |
|
I would definitely like to see Gen. Clark come up for consideration. I'm concerned that VP will end up being pro-war John Edwards, or, worst case scenario, pro-war and anti-choice Evan Bayh. Bayh, especially, could cause defections to Nader.

Gods I hope Kerry picks Clark. Clark would make a fantastic VP, and having two veterans on the ticket would put the thumbscrews to the PNAC chickenhawks.

3. He was on CNN Friday morning |
|
talking about what a botch job Iraq is...now that he is no longer a candidate, I think CNN will go to him more often. CNN did, however, put "Supports John Kerry" under his name when he was talking, along with "ret. general" and "former NATO commander" I'd love to see more of Wes.

4. Yes, I do remember Clark giving dire warnings about PNAC's... |
|
plans while Turkey-Chin Lieberman would gobble in his croaky voice about what a "Republican" Clark was. The other candidates were often too silent on this issue.

Seems like the General has been all over the airwaves, and cable of course, in the last week or so. CNN a couple times (Aaron Brown's show, Judy Woodruff, and that morning show they have just yesterday). Scarborough Country twice in one week. Greta whatzits on Faux news two nights ago. All over the radio day before yesterday--carried on Clear Channel stations, and a live interview on Alan Colmes (bleech) show. Interviewed on Air America at least once that I know of, on its second day.
Clark's the guy carrying the Democratic message--Kerry's message--on Iraq and terrorism, and why Bush is failing at both. I would imagine Kerry's perfectly happy with what he's been saying, cuz the campaign keeps putting him out there. Kerry himself seems to be holding back--must be some strategic reason for it. I hope.
As someone who's been behind him since the draft days, I find it kind of hard to see Clark not get credit for calling it right from the beginning (altho Joe Scab did indeed mention as much in an intro, about Iraq being 3 weeks of battle followed by "lots of trouble"--which Clark didn't even acknowledge). But he's more interested in getting the truth out now that who gets credit for what was said before.
Well, nice to see some people remember. Thanks.

14. A logical person would assume that Clark was going to be Kerry's VP |
|
handsdown....I was very early in speculating that the deal had been done.
However, I'm beginning to think it's not going to happen. It's partly my gut, partly some reports I've gotten.
My hopes are lagging, considerably.

We've got some really good people on our side. I'm glad my party isn't made up of greedy liars who will do and say anything to feed their greed.

Does anyone think his recent media appearances were encouraged by the Kerry camp to see how his message would sound? I was actually for Clark in the primary.

to do just that. Who better to speak about Iraq? He knows foreign policy inside out and can make this administration look like the inept assholes they are. I don't know why we haven't heard from him lately....unless I missed him?
