Are book distributors intentionally trying to keep sales of Dean's book?
Last I saw Costco didn't have any. Bookstores I've been to only ordered a few copies in the first place.

1. Yes. Book distributors are trying to keep Dean's sales down.
Because book distributors are actually all ruled by a space alien from Mars named Larry, and he hates Dean.

12. The same booksellers

who shamelessly promote the books of Al Franken and Michael Moore, because Larry likes them.

On edit: Just looking at the number of books by John Dean on my bookshelf, I'm wondering if he's named the new wing of his house after me - I'm sure I paid for it.

11. We're getting a copy as a premium
for resubscribing to Salon.

They've told us it's going to be four to five weeks.

There really must be a shortage.

4. It's not available yet
No tin foil hats on this one!!

You can pre-order it at Powell's Books --

I already put in a request to check it out at the Seattle Public Library, and even though they haven't received it yet, they are taking such orders.

The publisher is going to make a ton off this book -- no one is going to keep it off the market, IMHO.

5. When we bought ours, the clerk had to go to the back of the store
and rifle through a box of stuff. *sigh*

6. Yes Border's too

I went to Boarder's near the L A airport last Wednesday.
The lady looked the book up and told me the computer indicated that ONE copy would be coming in that day.
I was shocked and told her they certainly needed more than one copy of such an important book.
She didn't have a clue....

7. I would like to read it too.
I had the same trouble finding "Prayer for America" by Dennis Kucinich, btw.

Really makes you wonder when it is so difficult to find writings by two wise men who happen to disagree with the current state of our government.

What are the bookstores afraid of? That people might acually BUY these books? That we might take them home and read them?

8. We've sold out
at my store and are dependent on the publisher getting more out there. I was caught a little by surprise that the Dean book had garnered even the attention it has (as apparently the publisher was caught off guard too). By no means is it blowing out like the Richard Clarke book. But it has been 30 years since Dean was a household name. The market is starting to get quite saturated though, just yesterday a new book on Bush and the environment came out (of course it doesn't have anything nice to say about GW).

Right now it looks like 2-3 weeks before it'll be in stock again, so if you find a copy snatch it up.

14. If you are talking about John Dean
he said it is already in the 6th printing so some one is able to buy it.

15. Dean is yesterday's news
Even if there is a vast right-wing conspiracy among book distributors to keep sabatouge Dean's beek sales, what the heck would the point of it be? Kerry has the nomination locked up and Dean is no longer activiely campaigning for it.
