I will be voting straight Democrat in November regardless of who is in the presidential slot.

But I won't be happy about it if it's Hillary, and I would NEVER call it a vote "for" her.

9. Based on slate's delegate calculator
if she wins ALL of the remaining contests by 63% (which is far fetched) she can win it fair and square.

She only had 3 contests over 58% (Arkansas, New York and Rhode Island) to Obama's 18. Source: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4984865

51. Same here....
...Hillary at the top of the ticket most likely will be a total disaster for many Dems who are running. I will also try to prevent the disaster a Hillary nomination most certainly will bring to other Dems. After all, she supported John McCain over her fellow Dem Obama...IMO, we cannot expect anything but disaster coming from this.

I'll try not to think of it as voting for Hillary.

Now... not so much.

42. Here's what she said:
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 11:51 AM by ocelot
"I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the White House. I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience to bring to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."

Is that technically an endorsement? No. But she is very clearly implying that McCain is more qualified to be president than Obama. To suggest that the Republican, especially a warmongering S.O.B. like McCain, is a better candidate than ANY fellow Democrat is, to me, just inexcusable.

15. when she said mccain and her were more qualified to be president than Obama that did it for me
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 10:54 AM by still_one
The momement she brought mccain into the picture, indicating that either of them have the experience to be president but not Obama, that was when I decided if she gets the nomination I would NOT vote for president in 2008

I would like to remind her that bill clinton had less experience than Obama when he was running for president, and that she herself does not have that much more experience herself

People should ask themseleves is experience more important than good judgement

However, if she was just comparing herself with Obama that would have been fine, but bringing mccain into this told me everything I needed to know about clinton, and I could never trust her, and therefore never vote for her

39. No comparison, Clinton had several years of experience in
holding office. Plus he is brilliant. There is absolutely no comparison. BO is a newbie, lots to learn before he is ready. He should have never been able to run for such a high ofc with no qualifications. There needs to be a test given to weed out the culls.

43. Bill C. was Governor of Arkansas. That's it.
Obama served in the Illinois legislature for longer than Bill was Governor, and Bill never held any federal office. And Obama is no intellectual midget: he was the President of the Harvard Law Review and was endorsed by Laurence Tribe, who is one of the most eminent Constitutional scholars in the country. So if you're going to compare Bill's and Obama's IQs I think Obama would hold up very well.

23. Gotta be honest with you crusoe
Dear BF and I have had a lot of discussion around the house about this. Luckily we live in NY and I will guess she will have at least a 55%/45% advantage over McCain here in the GE. If she is the nominee and she is polling 10% or more above McCain here we will vote dem down the ticket except we will not punch either way for a presidential candidate.

If she is polling around 7% or tighter in NY we will hold our nose and vote against McCain.

That's our threshold, either way we dont vote McCain in.

27. Hi, yourguide.
McCain is one of those temper-tantrum-throwing adults who somehow behave more or less the same way they behaved as 4-year olds.

He seems long on temper and short on ideas, and without sounding too anti-Republican, he doesn't look or sound terribly healthy.

Politics aside, there is something not right about McCain's health and well-being.

and I think the standards that we've crafted at the house will still allow us to vote our conscious without voting McCain in by default.

however, if we lived in Ohio the standards would be completely different and it would be "we would vote for the dem no matter what" - again, voting our conscious.

luckily living in NY, we can not vote in the presidential column and still not give it to McCain if the polling spread is wide enough and it most likely will be.

30. Any large margin in NY for Democrats helps all Democrats, even the
unfamous local town and county contests -- and so it has a kind of accumulative effect.

Not sure, but I think this is one of the outcomes Dean hopes for. He'd love for us to get the White House back, for sure, but the stronger the party is at all levels, the bluer the votes by elected Dems.

I don't have ready statistics on that, but it just seems like a worthy push.

I love New York politics, by the way. They're high-interest and real juicy.

we would absolutely vote D for all of our representatives etc but the HRC spread *should* be wide enough here that we can leave president blank.

again if it's less than 7% in polling, or there is some weird McCain moe we will vote accordinly.

we will still get out, and still be counted, especially in the local contests.

NY politics are wild. I live in a very liberal district and our dem representative doesnt actually support a lot of things (like universal health care) that this district supports.

Side note, this district went for Obama and not HRC.

We just have to vote our conscious and if we dont HAVE to vote for her we wont. We will absolutely vote against McCain if it comes down to that here. Like I said if we were in Ohio or another battleground state we would know exactly what we need to do.

Our district is great, Obama signs all over this neighborhood!

38. He is still under-rated as a national figure, IMO.
I also have a sense that he hasn't rully stretched out just yet, that he is keeping a lot in reserve for the general.

He faces a tenacious opponent and each single delegate seems to be fiercely fought for.

At this point, it looks as if the trendlines auger well for his taking the stage in Denver.

Too many racial slurs
too many innuendos
too many MPD tantrums
too many "win at any cost" tactics

I am holding out hope that the soooopers will do what's best , but I also am not holding my breath

I would hate to see McCain as president, but his chances improve daily

I won't vote for him, but if CA is not seriously in play for him, I'll just vote on the "other stuff" that Ahhhhnold's sure to try to put over on us..

She won't get my vote..but neither will he

If she IS the candidate and CA is close, I will have to reconsider ..THEN

Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 11:56 AM by rocknation
I would support the candidate I considered best qualified and most electable until s/he was no longer available; then I would vote for the Dem primary winner. As soon as I sobered up from celebrating the November '06 election, I made this sig graphic of my "dream ticket":

When Clark dropped out, I moved on to Edwards, and when he dropped out, Obama.

Right up until the moment I walked into the voting booth of my state primary, I was torn between Hillary and Obama because Obama wasn't expected to win. I decided it would be wrong to vote for Hillary when I genuinely preferred Obama, and that voting for Obama now would allow me to vote for Hillary with the clearest conscience possible should she end up in the GE.

My strategy has worked out so far.

But if she wins more pledged delegates fair and square as a member of the party, I'll vote for her.

Besides, the supreme court, the legislation either one of them would sign means that I'd still prefer her to McCain.

This absolute refusal to back the other candidate if they win the nomination fair and square doesn't help our candidates, it helps McCain.

As much as I dislike Hillary, I dislike McCain more and I can let that be my guide.

49. I will vote for the nominee of the Democratic Party
because, warts and all, I think the Democratic Party is, in the whole, a better, more progressive and more fair alternative to the Republican Party. If the Republican Party rewrites its platform, repudiates the last 50 years of history, does substantial public penance, gets beaten for a few cycles while it tries to convince me that it means it and then politely requests that I reconsider my opinion I will consider changing that decision.

Until then, I'm still supporting Adlai Stevenson...
