Maybe it doesn't matter who is appointed to the Supreme Court.
I've been rethinking my position on this today. Especially in light of all the folks who are saying that they won't vote for the Dem candidate in the GE if that person is not their candidate. This may not be as important an issue as I have thought it was.

Maybe there are a lot of folks out there who don't have a dog in this fight...people like me for whom reproductive rights aren't personally important anymore (beyond childbearing age), guys, some of whom don't care about this because they won't get pregnant and they'll be careful not to get anyone else pregnant.

Maybe there are folks out there who don't think wiretapping will ever affect them personally...or right to counsel or right to sue.

Maybe there are folks out there who feel that we will survive more Republican nominated Justices and it's worth taking the risk to make a point.

Maybe there are folks out there who are risk-takers and who will run for luck that President John McCain won't be as bad as people say he will be. Maybe he won't be. Why should I worry about all of this when people around me aren't?

I would love to hear from people who won't vote for the Dem if he or she is not their Dem. Put my mind at ease...tell me why I should not be worried about the future of the Supreme Court. Really, somebody must have figured this out and decided that we can kill off our candidates and it won't matter.

2. I will hold my nose and vote for Obama in general - but some refuse to reward his smear campaign and
his two faced promises on NAFTA-Canada/Social program funding won't pass so no deficit on CNBC/ and Iraq war ending just best case to EU newspapers.

8. Those who plan on not voting are
shortsighted to say the least.

Most live on a soapbox that will someday collapse under the weight of their own foolishness.

5. It matters a lot to me
I pray every day that the Repubs don't get another opportunity to appoint a new S.C. justice for a LOOOONG time.

9. I will happily vote for Obama or hold my nose and vote for Hillary.
If McCain is elected I'll resume my search for Canadian real estate.

10. There is no reason to suspect that Hillary's SCOTUS
nominees would be any better than Obama's. So, if she continues her scorched earth strategy, and McCain eventually wins the presidency... won't that affect the makeup of the SCOTUS for the next decade or so? IMO it will. Obama is the leading candidate, he is the stronger candidate, he energizes the Dem voters more, he doesn't inspire the RW to turn out in droves as Hillary will, and anyone who really cares about the SCOTUS will urge Hillary to quit the race.

11. I'll vote for the Dem nominee, because of SCOTU and other reasons
If it's Obama, I'll hold my nose; if it's Hillary, I'll vote eagerly. In EITHER case, when the Dem wins the White House, I'll hold his or her feet to the fire, to make sure our president lives up to Democratic ideals. That doesn't mean I have to agree with every decision, but particularly in Obama's case, I want to make sure that any compromises are truly necessary and true compromises rather than capitulation.

12. It's important to me. How I wish Hillary had taken it into consideration
before giving her presidential blessing to McCain. She, if one takes her at her word, is more comfortable with McCain appointing Justices than Obama. Someone needs to ask her about this, IMHO.

13. I've been repeatedly reminding people that
the Supreme Court is in the balance. Throwing away their vote is throwing the Supremes to the rabid right wing.

14. John Paul Stevens is 87 years old
If McCain is president, Democrats better hope he keeps going into his 90's.
