If the one who loses the nom doesn't campaign their DAMNEDEST for the winner... |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 07:40 PM by Bicoastal
...I will lose all respect for said candidate, as well as a good chunk of respect for the Democratic Party. And I guarantee most Democrats across the country feel the same way.
Forget about losing blue states or winning red states, and forget about a split ticket--if we don't have a unified front once this thing is over, we are screwed. Both Clintons better be going across the country to support Obama after Denver...OR Obama and the Kennedy better do the same thing for Hillary if they're the ones who lose.
The problem is, if these two candidates keep saying things they can't take back in the Fall, eventually we will lose what should have been a sure thing (8 years of the worst Republican president in living memory) and the names of Obama and/or Clinton will inspire near-Lieberman levels of pure, raw hatred from here on after.
The way I see it, then and now, it's all up to them.

1. That depends on whether or not the one who gets the nom wants them to. Remember GORE told Bill to |

5. it's not about 'friends' |
|
it's about what's needed for the party. A *lot of Obama supporters loathe Hillary and a *lot of Hillary supporters loathe Obama.
Whoever wins the nomination, that alianated segment of the party needs to be brought back in or we lose in the GE and get McCain.

14. That's a different question |
|
If Clinton would do the right thing today, that would give us 5 months to come together with some party unity before the convention. That is a long time, and Clinton could help that along by demonstrating this is not all about her.
Instead, it appears she is on a path to sow destruction all the way up to the convention.
Given her recent approach, I am not very optimistic about getting ANY help from the Clintons. However, I'm not sure too much help is actually needed. The thing that would be most helpful would be for them -- and especially their entourage of DLC think-alikes -- to disappear. That ain't happening. They will be sabotaging this thing all the way up through November. And that isn't necessarily because they dislike Obama. It is simply that they are career sycophants, and their best chance to keep their careers going is to the part of the "junior Republican" establishment represented by the DLC types. They figure they can do better even going into hiding for 4 more years than they will do if Obama is able to remake the progressive end of the political spectrum without them.

I'm talking about an opponent in the same election cycle.

4. Hilary will campaign as much and enthusiastically as she is asked to... |
|
...of that I have absolutely no doubt...she has always campaigned for Dem candidates and always has raised tons of money for them. Regardless of what the Hillary haters here think, she is in the game for the long haul, and will keep working for Dems.

11. Oh, pleeze, you are so naive |
|
The Clintons are never in it for anyone else. She is trashing Obama so that in case he gets the nom he will lose and she will run in 2012. Why do you think she said she and McCain are experienced and all Obama has is a speech from 2002. Does that sound like she is campaigning to help him.
Grow up. This is a blood sport and not win one for the team.

And I remember many Obama supporters stating that they would not support Clinton.
Have you seen the posts? She is dehumanized. They feel righteous in calling her a monster. They have attacked every aspect of her being, and you expect that to end?
These attacks are destructive to our party and to our democracy. I am horrified that DU has turned so ugly. It will not change after the nomination.

|
she did not endorse McCAin any more than Obama endorsed the Reagan presidency over the Clinton presidency.
She has been consistent in stating that she would support the democratic nominee. She has stated the truth: Mccain has more experience than obama.
Remember that Obama has said in the past that He would make a better President than Clinton...turn about is fair play.

That is no different than what Clinton has done. I am amazed at the contortions done on DU in an attempt to justify the faux outrage when Clinton does the same thing Obama did.

He just gets media cover for his attacks. And of course Clinton is attacked constantly by the media, even with the slimest of sources. For example, in an effort to defuse the Canada / Nafta thing, the media attempted to promote the idea that clinton's people ALSO called Canada. They did not, but the story was aired, by even seemingly progressive reporters in an attempt to cover for Obama's misstep.
She has done nothing more than Obama has.

15. Hillary Clinton can't muster enough grace for a concession speech .... |
|
You really are dreaming that the Clintons will do anything other than wreck themselves on the rocks trying to bring down Obama. There will be no kissy-poo after this. To suggest that is your acquiescence to the Clintons' strong-arm tactics, and no warm-blooded Democrat should go against the very core of democracy and just roll over. It will split the Democratic party and will be the ultimate catalyst for the rise of a third party.
