Rasmussen: 42% of voters want McCain to answer 3 AM phone call
The commercial was credited as one factor enabling Clinton to turn her campaign around in Texas last week. But, 42% of all voters said the person they’d most want to answer the phone was John McCain. Among all voters, 25% picked Clinton and another 25% named Obama as the person they’d want in the White House when a foreign policy crisis call arrived.

Full report: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/42_want_mccain_to_answer_3_00_a_m_phone_call

There was a Republican shill on CNN last night arguing that the 3 a.m. phone call ads had helped neither Clinton nor Obama -- instead, she claimed, they had only helped McCain. She pointed to this poll as proof. ... and no one challenged her on it.

Now, I think the 3 a.m. commercials were stupid to begin with; however, what I see, when I look at this particular poll, is 50% of voters prefer a DEMOCRAT to respond to a 3 a.m. emergency than the 42% who prefer McCain.

Am I wrong?

1. A truly dumbass bone-headed move on Hillary's part.
She runs an ad showcasing the traditional Democratic Achilles heel, unfortunately Ms. Flick failed to realize she doesn't really have any foreign policy experience either and ended up giving McCain an ad for the fall regardless of who wins the Dem nod.

I used to think she was smart.

2. they should have McCain answer the phone at 3am...
The conversation may go like this:

McCain: Hello
Man on other end: Hi, is Dave there?
McCain: No,Dave's not here!
Man: I'm lookin for Dave, man, could you put him on?
McCain: NO, Dave is NOT here!
Man: Sorry man, did i wake you?
McCain: It's okay, i had to answer the phone anyway.

3. I think you nailed it ...
and I would not be surprised to see a pretty significant landslide in November. This is the GOP's "money" issue, the one they feel will win the election for them (just as it did, depending on who you ask, in 2004).

If the GOP doesn't have a lead on national security questions, they're dead meat. No how, no way do they win on economics (hello, recession?), health care (or lack thereof), or education. Add it all up, and I could see a 40-45 state win (just think 1980 or 1984, only with the good guys coming out on top for a change).

Toss in the large number of GOP senators who are calling it quits, and you could see 60+ Democrats in the Senate to ensure no filibusters, and there's no way the House is going back to the GOP if the White House changes hands.

Now if we can just keep from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...
