New poll shows that voters trust President Hillary Clinton to fix the economy.
Rasmussen Reports has done two polls, asking voters which Presidential candidate they trust most to deal with the major issues facing America.

The results of the McCain v Obama poll were published on February 27th.

The results of the McCain v Clinton poll are published today (March 10th).

Here is my summary of the main findings (you can see the numbers below):

1. Hillary Clinton beats John McCain on the Economy and Taxes. McCain beats Obama on both of these issues.

2. Hillary does better than Obama on National Security and Iraq, although McCain leads both Democrats on these issues.

3. The one issue where Obama is way out in front is when people were asked who would do most to reduce corruption in the federal government. But you have to remember that the Obama poll was done back in February, when most Americans had never heard the name "Rezco".

I can't help but be reminded of the stories about Bill Clinton's successful Presidential campaign back in 1992, when James Carville put up a sign on the War Room wall that said "It's the economy, stupid!" B-)

Economy
Clinton 47 - McCain 41
McCain 45 - Obama 39

Taxes
Clinton 39 - McCain 37
McCain 42 - Obama 37

National Security
McCain 46 - Clinton 36
McCain 55 - Obama 30

Iraq
McCain 46 - Clinton 42
McCain 49 - Obama 39

Reducing Government Corruption
McCain 43 - Clinton 32
Obama 43 - McCain 34

If so, it's hard to believe Clinton would lead and Obama would be close to McCain, that's a Republican core issue.

6. I think they asked: who do you trust most when it comes to taxes?
Not necessarily who would cut taxes the most. It would be very dangerous to assume that people should always vote for the candidate who is promising to cut taxes the most.

4. Yeah Hillary's campaign has handled its money so well...NOT!
$3000 in unauthorized VISA charges to a poor unsuspecting contributor is mismanagement at its worst. Just think if your utility did that to you, or your grocery store. And the poor woman had to file a criminal charge to get her money back. Awful.

11. It would be so easy to change the opinion that HIllary was a good manager of $.
Just look at the trail of unpaid debts she left across Iowa & New Hampshire, and the fact that her campaign didn't even tell her she was running out of money.

And when she did find out, she lent her campaign $5 million and didn't tell her campaign manager.

Talk about dysfunctional.

14. Maybe it's the one advantage Hillary gets from being married to Bill?
Hillary Clinton has often talked about how the US economy was doing much better in the 8 years 1993-2000 than during the Bush-Cheney administration. Also the public finances (i.e. budget deficit).

Barack Obama doesn't talk much about the positive achievements of the Clinton-Gore administration. He prefers to talk about the "optimism" and "dynamism" offered by Ronald Reagan back in the 80s.

According to this poll.

Obama beats McCain on that one, who in turn slaughters Clinton.

So, in terms of "Reducing Government Corruption" it is Obama > McCain > Clinton.

Interesting.

31. Hillary is not "my" candidate. Your question is not relevant to the OP.
Over the past 12 months, I have gone from Gore to Biden to Obama to Hillary.

It's only since a couple of weeks that I have been consistently rooting for Hillary.

Hillary has done great in every debate I have seen (and I watched them all!)

Obama seems to be all about hope and not enough about defeating the GOP.

Polls are showing that Hillary would be a stronger nominee in many ways.

Unless Hillary has been breaking the law, her personal finances don't interest me.

45. But only last month, Rasmussen's numbers looked great for Obama
Back in mid-February, Rasmussen's rolling poll showed Obama beating McCain by as much as 6 points, while Hillary was losing to McCain by as much as 9 points.

For the past 7 days, both Obama and Hillary have been running almost neck-and-neck in their respective match-ups against John McCain.

http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/general_election_match_up_history

But I guess they probably just make those numbers up, to make McCain look good? :eyes:

58. The Obama "wave" reminds me of the dotcom bubble.
This year's front-loaded primary calendar has enabled Obama to make the most of his momentum after Iowa and South Carolina, assisted by John Kerry and Ted Kennedy.

But looking ahead to November, people are finally starting to ask if Obama is ready to go up against John McCain (23 years military experience + 25 years Washington experience).

It will take some kind of miracle (including a solution for Florida and Michigan) to turn this situation around between now and the convention.

67. Hillary can beat McCain on 1. the economy, 2. healthcare and 3. Iraq.
I think the "national security" issue is more abstract for most people.

McCain can point to his 23 years of military service (including POW experience).

But Hillary will have Wes Clark at the heart of her national security team.

I guess Clark would also be on Hillary's shortlist for the VP slot.

73. Check out today's Rasmussen's Daily Presidential Tracking Poll...
Tuesday, March 11, 2008

On Tuesday, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Barack Obama with a seven-point lead over Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Obama now attracts 48% of the Likely Democratic Primary Voters while Clinton earns support from 41% (see recent daily results). Obama is expected to win big in Mississippi’s Primary today .

The General Election is a pure toss-up at this time--McCain and Obama are tied at 44% each while McCain and Clinton are tied at 45% each (see recent daily results). A Rasmussen Reports video analysis notes that while the race is close with either Democrat in the mix, the dynamics of the campaign will be different depending upon whether Obama or Clinton is nominated.

I noticed the poll you posted is a little out of date.
