Before we all jump on-board the mail-in primary in FL and/or MI, a few reminders: 1--it'll rely on the USPS. There are two reasons "the check's in the mail" works as an excuse. It's because nobody knows if the check is really in the mail, and "in the mail" can mean everything from "on the way to its rightful destination" to "crammed in a disgruntled employee's footlocker." 2--if you thought disenfranchisement of democrats was easy in Florida when people actually showed up to vote, wait 'til you see how it works when they don't physically step inside a building. Let's assume there's no GOP bias involved in the revote (even though there is); lots of ballots can get "lost" by zip code, depending on any mail employee or state employee's political preference--not to mention the problem of making sure everyone in certain zip codes receives a ballot 3--voter rolls, voter rolls, voter rolls. In Florida especially, anybody with an usual, new, outdated, or funny-looking address won't be getting a vote. That's Florida. 4--campaign interference. What's to keep representatives of one campaign from re-marking or discarding ballots they don't like. E.g. campaign A's canvasser offers to take a ballot to the post office for a supporter of campaign B. We know the campaigns will be incredibly active in making sure THEIR ballots reach the post office. But this system seems ready for abuse. 5--the result will be chaos, accusations of fraud, the uncovering of real fraud, more democratic infighting, continued disenfranchisement of thousands, and the resolution of nothing.
Obviously, as an Obama supporter, I have real misgivings about what will in the end be a red state running this sort of primary for the sake of Hillary Clinton's delegate count. And, no, I don't yet have a better solution, and yes, I am in favor of FL and MI voters having their votes counted. After all, the voters did nothing wrong. Their leadership failed them.
