31. She is articulate and adorable and a Woman of course
But it's OK to call another woman, and a young White woman at that, a "cult" follower.

:sarcasm:

It's not strange to met Sen. Obama,it is exciting! He is kind, gracious, and very down to earth. He is not phony or mean spirited at all.

That's why so many of the young adults of today are drawn to his campaign. They don't want "yesterday's news ~ they are thinking about TOMORROW.

And I'm with them all the way!

I am an African American woman and I have met Bill Clinton and Obama.

Bill Clinton signed his book for my mother and we were thrilled!

After reading your take on this lovely young lady, I'm selling the book and donating the profits to Obama.

:bounce:

Thanks

115. I was not responding to you, but since you asked...I am not Frenchie
but I've come to admire her greatly, just as I admire the young lady you sought to poke fun at. The Clintons attempted to pimp her in that ad, just as they've pimped Chelsea for SD's, but since this young lady spoke out, the ad has lost some of it's impact, since she actually supports Obama. How utterly pathetic you guys are.

If you care to search, Frenchie and I have had numerous conversations, and we are very like-minded, but thanks for asking....I'm flattered.

150. "And a child shall lead them"
You guys have sunk to new lows on this board. I recall back in '04, a young lady came forward, even younger than the one who's being slammed in this thread; I think her name was Ava, she was a very engaged anti-war activist. She was even a member of this board, and supported John Kerry, and I remeber being so proud of her for taking a stand that even some adults were afraid to take (Hillary being one of them).

I would hate to think that she or the young lady being lampooned here are reading some of the comments you guys have made about "cults", etc. Like Ava, this young lady is engaged at the local level. I even heard on Thom Hartmann that she is a precinct chair for her district. I don't know a lot of older people (myself included)who have been involved at that level, do you? Is this, yet another, part of the "kitchen sink strategy"? Tear down your opponent's supporters, in the hopes that they will become disillusioned and disconnected again? If so, I want no part of these tired old divide & conquer tactics.

Do you remember how utterly insulted we all were when we learned that some rightwing blowhole had called Chelsea "The White House Dog"? Can you imagine the kind of toll that takes on a young person's psyche? They have quite enough issues as it is, and crap like this just compounds those issues.

So far all you old coots & keyboard commandoes, sitting around filling up your Depends, step away from the computer, take a walk, compose yourselves, and come back and ask this young lady's forgiveness? It's the "ADULT" thing to do.

Many people- including me- have said that out kids' enthusiasm about him, got us to take a closer look, and research more about him. My 21 year old son, was very enthusiastic about Obama and that is what got me to give him a closer look. Furthermore, he is by no means an uninformed person, and his reason for supporting Obama are at least as good as most of the reasons people on this board have for supporting their candidate of choice.

Hillary Clinton’s town hall forum in Bridgeton ended abruptly this afternoon after a man in the crowd fainted.

Clinton was in the middle of answering questions when audience members began drawing attention to the man. From the stage, Clinton asked any doctors in attendance to see to the man. None did, but Pattonville paramedics - who were near-by - quickly came to his aid.

The man, who seemed conscious but disoriented, was taken away on a stretcher. Clinton, rather than continue fielding questions, ended the forum in favor of an extended autograph session.

She's now a delegate and can go to her county and state convention, and I personally hope she goes all the way and is elected a National Delegate for Obama. 17 years old!!

I'm happy to hold her up as a shining example of an Obama supporter. You're free to continue mocking her, but I'd be damned proud if she was my kid, or my friend, or my niece, for becoming so politically active and dedicated at such a young age.

148. So, what's your age requirement for joining the Democratic Party?
Should they even be allowed to vote Democratic when they're 18, or should we just hand those voters over to the Republicans?

One day, party activists like you and I will be dead. I want the party to be in good hands when it's no longer our turn to lead.

I was 21 when I worked on my first presdential campaign, just a few years older than "3 AM Girl." I was also a precinct captain, and in the general election was a paid staffer at the state level.

Getting involved in Democratic Party politics at such a young age was a wonderful introduction, and the beginning of a lifetime association of goodwill and accomplishments.

I'm glad I wasn't greeted by people like you when I first became interested in becoming a Democrat, that's for certain. ;-)

28. I think it is an amazing thing
When our young people are getting so excited over politics and the political process. She isn't swooning over Brittany Spears, she is paying attention to politics and is enthusiastic, and expressing it. Democracy has become COOL, and IMPORTANT, and not a moment too soon.

Young people have seen that it does matter who is in charge. It is their generation that is suffering most of the death and injuries in Iraq, and their generation that is about to inherit this mess of an environment and economy.

The saddest thing about the Obama cult narrative is how it plays into the suppression of democracy. When people are apathetic, they are portrayed as unfit for democracy. Now, when they begin to show enthusiasm, that too is painted as pathological, and a sign that they lack sufficient reason to participate.

It makes a cult look good...almost lyrical in its philosophical proponents. Yes, I am a proud member of Sen.Obama's cult.

124. Post Of The Thread
You need to make this a thread of it's own. The suppression of democracy by deeming support and enthusiasm as pathological is very IMPORTANT. The media and a particular candidate, are framing this debate to make people feel uncomfortable about having hope and wanting to be involved. Then they call the supporters a "cult" to make their support irrelevant. It's as if they are saying "You really don't belong but keep pressing your nose up against the glass and we will let you watch." That is what the "cult" meme reinforces, it establishes that legitimate followers are somehow lunatic fringe "worshipers." I hate it and hope you start a thread concerning this issue.

Beware: The Cult of Hillary

By
Raconteur at Large
Stephen Pizzo

December 6, 2005

No Republican bashing today. Why? Because it's not required. The Republican revolution has is finally petering out, dying a death of a thousand self-inflicted cuts. I said several years ago that the best way to get rid of neo-conservatives is to give them everything they said they wanted. They got pretty much all of what they said they wanted – tax cuts for the rich, welfare cuts for the poor, less environmental restrictions on businesses, free trade, conservative courts, faith-based politics, faith-based education. It began in 1994 with Newt and will come to a grinding stop in November 2006.

That's the good news.

The bad news comes two years later, in November 2008. While Democrats will regain some of their lost power in '06, (with the growing possibility they will even regain at lease one house of Congress,) the party is risking the big prize, the White House in '08.

That risk can be summed up in two words: Hillary Clinton. If Democrats give Hillary the nod in '08 they will lose the White House again -- and this time not by the narrowest of margins, but in a landslide. Why?

Because Hillary is "one of them." There come along from time to time unique personalities that, flawed as they are, attract followers like flies to dung. The likes of Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Rev. Moon, Tom DeLay, George W. Bush. People like them, follow them down the strangest of paths and trust them with their most precious possessions.

This leaves the rest of us watching in disbelief, scratching our heads wondering if maybe we're missing something. How can otherwise functioning, rational, law-abiding folk be attracted to such obvious liars, phonies and connivers? But they are. Always have been and it will always be so. It's truly one of life's great mysteries.

Hillary Clinton is precisely such a person. There's something about the woman that dazzles some people.

I first saw it three years ago while attending meetings with Democrat strategists in Washington. A cell phone would ring. "Mumble, mumble... okay." Click. "I have to go," the recipient would say, adding importantly, "I have to meet with Hillary." A knowing hush would fall over the room. Glances exchanged. Heads nodded. A call had come from on high. Power had touched all in the room. It was as if the image of the Virgin Mary had appeared on that fellow's toasted cheese sandwich.

I called it The Cult of Hillary.

Now, you were saying?

You're telling me that in spite of your support for Hillary this post is now supposed to be taken as a joke? A little lighthearted humor among Democrats? Funny that until you started getting slapped down for hammering on the emotions of a 17 year old girl your thread had no indications of being "sarcastic". You want to see what real sarcasm looks like?

"We are all cult members. More than half the Dems in America are brainwashed by the Obama cult. Du has lost many of it's friends to the Obama cult. Friends like Olbermann, Maddow, Rhodes, Shultz, Hartmann, Malloy, Seder, all lost to the horrors of the cult brainwashing by Barak Hussein Obama. If this man wins the presidency America will be nothing but a bunch of drooling Obamatons, Obamaites, and Obamanoids, wandering the streets mumbling to themselves "we beat the monster" into their bottles of MD 20/20.

See, sarcasm.

ever since I threw my support behind Obama I've been killed more times than Kenny on South Park.

edit: LMAO.. I just saw the "Dead to me now" thread... not sure what's funnier, the anger from the Hillary people or the Obama supporters who read it and thought he was serious..

152. LOl.. yeah whatever, you use a 17 year olds crying
as a way to claim that Obama supporters are cult members, then you change your mind and claim that it's all just a joke, and now you want to say that Obama supporters can take it but can't dish it out. If I wanted to argue with a third grader I'd wait till my kids got home from school.

and BTW I've been an Obama "supporter" for all of 5 days. Right after Hillary threw him under the bus. Up till then I'd been sending both of them money, and she'll still get my vote if she wins the nod.

151. Meh. 17 year old girls cried meeting the Back Street Boys too.
and shook and cried for Elvis and the Beatles and probably meeting Hannah Montana. At least crying over meeting a possible President of the free world makes a little more sense that being ecstatic over a music star.

Besides the trembling could have been related to social anxiety or a form of STAGE FRIGHT. A have a work colleague whose voice and hands shake when speaking to our CEO - it's not that he has a cult admiration for him - it's that he gets very nervous and shaky in public.
