Obama refuses the "dream ticket" --->>> rough transcript of his remarks
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 12:46 PM by Stephanie

From Obama's remarks just now at a campaign rally aired on MSNBC:

With all due respect. I have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton. I have won more of the popular vote than Senator Clinton. I have more delegates than Senator Clinton. So I don't know how someobody who's in second place is offering the Vice Presidency to someone who's in first place. If I was in second place I could understand. But I'm winning.

But there's a second point. Bill Clinton in '92, when asked about his selection for VP, he said the only criteria is that the person is ready to be commander in chief. That was his criteria. Now they spent the last 2-3 weeks, with that ad with the phone call, saying "we're not sure he's ready." So I don't understand. If I'm not ready, how is that they think I'd be such a great VP? Do you understand that?

Let me be clear. I'm not running for Vice President. I'm running for President of the United States.

40. Somehow, I don't remember the "I want it all, dammit"
being anything that he actually said.

Maybe you're projecting Hillary's wish to add illegally gained delegates from MI onto his statement?

Last I checked, both Obama and Clinton are running for 'President of the United States', so I have zero problem with him slapping down a bizarre talking point that he should accept a VP slot - especially when the profferer is talking out of the other side of her mouth that he's not ready for leadership.

4. Lol. At this point, how much respect is "due"?
He could basically trash her on stage for an hour and still be giving her "due" respect. It's certainly more respect than she's shown him.

23. He's been very gracious with her
She's has belittled him and his achievements throughout the campaign. Though he's gone negative now and then, he's always been respectful of her accomplishments.

12. But Obama's popular vote lead depends on excluding Florida and Michigan.
Which is why the Obama campaign does not want new primaries in Florida and Michigan.

They want to play for time and run out the clock, until it's too late to re-do FL & MI.

If Obama is our nominee, McCain will face a much easier ride in Florida, Michigan and Ohio.

16. And you must think "popular" vote includes places...
1. Where you're the only name on the ticket (!!!!); OR
2. No one campaigned.

Nice definition. Maybe, in the future we should let this type of "popular" vote decide all elections. It will SAVE a lot of money, time and effort!

18. Not true
If you counted the uncommitteds as Obama votes in Michigan he'd still be ahead.

You can't count her votes and give him zero...that is completely unfair. If you are going to count Michigan in the popular vote you at least have to give him the uncommitteds.

26. Polls have Obama and Clinton tied in MI right now.
As for Florida and Ohio, who gives a shit about them anymore? I don't see the point of throwing $millions at the two states with the most jacked-up elections systems, that are probably going to be stolen by the GOP anyway. The FL legislature is talking about a bill to remove the Dem candidate's name from the ballot if the delegates don't get seated. I say let them do it. That way our party won't even waste its time there and will focus on more promising states like VA and CO.

“We do not believe that Senator Obama has passed the commander in chief test,” said Wolfson. “But there is a long way between now and Denver.”

He did not say what Obama might be able to do to get ready in the months before the Democratic convention this August.

In response, Obama spokesman Bill Burton e-mailed reporters the quote, along with the Clinton campaign press office number, and urged journalists to call and ask them what Wolfson’s statement “could possibly mean.”

42. Obama should point out that he has spent more time on the national stage
Than Bill Clinton had when he ran for president. By Hillary's own logic, Bill was a poor choice in '92.

37. What He Fails To Realize, Is That In The End Of It All It May Not Be Up To Him.
If talks are needed and it is the party position (based on several things falling into place over the next few weeks) that Hillary should be at the top of the ticket, then it won't be up to him as to whether or not he gets that top spot or is convinced to take the VP slot.
