"Obama Can't Milk The Iraq War Cow"
Speaking on a conference call with reporters, Lt. Gen. Joe Ballard, a Clinton supporter, compared Obama's stance on Iraq to a person who could "recognize a cow" (ostensibly, the perils of the war) but not milk it (get the troops out? has conflict-management experience?).

"Just because you recognize the cow doesn't mean you know how to milk it," said Ballard, who was playing off his time among cows in Louisiana. "I think body of experience, learning what you have to do and how to do it, is very important... No one can tell you how to milk a cow; you have to do that yourself."

That wasn't all.

"No doubt in my mind he can probably milk a cow but his body of experience means he probably doesn't know how to milk one," continued Ballard, before getting a bit more specific. "When I look across the aisle at Sen. Obama, other than a great speech, I really do not see the same body of experience to deal with that issue. I see a statement that says I have a great staff that can advise me. I think you need a great body of experience to deal with the recommendations your staff is bringing to you."

14. Lets see:

War = Bovine
Milking = "Learning to do war"
No one can tell you how to 'do war,' but Hillary has experience to understand how people tell her to do war
Obama = Hasn't 'done war'
Hillary has... "a great body"?!

you win. let this guy be the official clintons spokesman. he is a genius!

13. Can also use a "car" analogy
If you think of the Iraq War as a car - Obama knows it when he sees it, but it doesn't mean he knows how to drive it.

The message is pretty clear - Our military leaders are smart enough to know Obama doesn't know much about the Iraq War or how to manage our way out of it. They're telling us they would like for us to vote in a president who does know how to do it. It will make their jobs much easier.

Haven't we had enough of inexperienced presidents with big egos who want on the job training?

Speeches don't count as experience and neither does serving tea to diplomats. McCain is the only candidate who has any wartime experience!

23. So you know more than a bunch of Generals re Clinton's experience?
Read the linked article. The military leaders quoted there think her experience is fine.

Sounds like more sexist drivel from the Obama camp. It must make some men feel pretty inadequate that a woman is better qualified to lead the military than a man.

27. You obviously aren't looking for intelligent discussion.
So I won't oblige you. All I will say is that every argument somehow runs down to men vs women and that's just dumb. She has no military experience, her foreign policy experience is just running around and giving speeches (and attending dinners.) She never had to lead any military ventures or anything. It's just more padding on her already padded resume.

17. Sorry, I trust a Lt General more than Obama
when it comes to knowing how to get us out of Iraq.

Our military leaders have had to stand by and watch one group of amateurs kill their soldiers, violate their laws and principles (torture) and destroy their military readiness. They're asking us to give them a president they can work with to get our country out of the Iraq quagmire, one who knows and understands military strategy and operations.

These people have been through bloody hell during the Bush administration. Why would we want to add insult to injury? Why do Obama supporters want to demonize and ridicule them simply because they're making a reasonable request - give them a president who has some understanding of military and foreign policy matters.

22. "No one can tell you how to milk a cow?"
Then how does anyone learn? Or is it one of those things everyone has to learn for themselves through trial and error, without any guidance from others?

This website (and a bunch of others) seem to think they can tell you how to milk a cow.

If you hate the military, does that mean Obama hates them also?

Is attacking US military leaders really a good way to get us out of Iraq?

37. I think the opinions of retired military leaders are important...
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 03:48 PM by hughee99
unless they're "third stringers", or they support Obama, or McCain, or oppose an immediate withdrawal, or suffer from the gum disease known as GINGIVITIS...

It's ridiculous to suggest that Hillary doesn't have the experience necessary to do this, after all, this wouldn't be the first time she directed a large scale withdrawal of troops from a deeply divided foreign country after years of occupation that resulted from a war that she initially supported because she was "tricked" by that evil genius George W. Bush. This is "old hat" for her. :sarcasm:
