So the fuck what if Spitzer endorsed Clinton? |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 02:24 PM by cali
Of all the moronic attacks on either Clinton or Obama, this has to be one of the dumbest. He frequented prostitutes. What does that have to do with her? Zip. Nada.
The worst thing about it is you guys gleefully jumping all over this as if it were bad news for Clinton are completely missing the real problem: This is bad news for NY dems specifically and dems in general. This story sucks all the oxygen out of the room. Obama's comments in MS today? Gone by the wayside. And the repukes will have a field day with this, and we don't need that. At all.
10 posts bashing Hillary about Spitzer is just bullshit. There are lots of real things to criticize her about.

|
Even if it did, you'd have to have to show really solid proof that the Clinton campaign should have known exactly how the campaign money was generated. There is no benefit whatever to playing up this angle in the way that some Clinton supporter have been playing up the Rezko story, while knowing perfectly well that there is nothing much to it as far as Obama is concerned. Don't sink to that level.

how much, if any, he has raised for her. As I said elsewhere, it seems really unlikely to me that she could or would have known word one about this. If it turns out she did or got money from it, then that would be a big issue for her campaign, but for now it's just really badly luck rather than bad judgment on Clinton's part.

This is "in preparation for the GOP attack". Or so goes the "all's fair in love and war" meme. My mother always told me that politics is ugly and my god, this place is about as ugly as I have seen. But sometimes, the lord works in mysterious ways and sometimes in order to get above the crap, it needs to be negated with similar crap. Would then mean that this ignores the 2 wrongs don't make a right situation? Not really. It's more the take the blinders off and see these people for the imperfect beings that they are and quit focusing on the gutter because the 1 finger pointing at me is the 3 pointing back at yourself. ;)

42. Spitzer has created more enemies (Dem and Rep) in his short time in office ... |
|
than almost any politician in history. Honest, he has been at war with his own party for two years. I read the long profile on him and his first year in office in the New Yorker a few months back, and it was fairly brutal. He came in swinging with this I'm-the-boss, get-out-of-the-way arrogance that literally paralyzed the government.
Look, this is a huge story for a couple of reasons, not least of which being that he is truly disliked by a lot of reasons, whether it's his personal arrogance, his political views, or his criminal prosecutions. But the main thing is that this guy is the most famous prosecutor this country has known for decades ... and we're dealing with a crime organization here (possibly mob-connected). And because he was a prosecutor he knows what kinds of crime (money laundering, drugs) these outfits are involved in: he's prosecuted them. And how he could be so dumb as to leave a trail of text messages is either extreme hormonal insanity or extreme hubris. This isn't just an average case of Republican hypocrisy (say one thing and do another, on a moral basis): this is someone who has put criminals away and then participated in the criminal activity, even if it was "just sex."

This will be a HUGE scandal for the MSM/GOP that will be endlessly trumpeted as proof of Democrats' immorality and lack of family values. It will totally eclipse any kind of coverage that Mark Foley, Larry Craig, or Diaper Boy Vitter got for their disgusting hypocritical behavior.
If anything, I could see it maybe being helpful to Hillary Clinton because a lot of voters (women especially) are getting real tired of the boyz and their little zipper problems.

One other, perhaps minor thing. A few of us were talking about this in the GLBT forum. And we were wondering what happens to any push for marriage equality in New York State...since Governor Spitzer promised to push for same-sex marriage in New York State. I guess that's over now. :-(
