His margin of victory came from Duval County, Texas (south of San Antonio, west of Corpus Christi). In Duval County, a place ruled by Judge Parr, LBJ won 204 to 0. Everyone whose last name began with the letters A-E voted. No one else did. Federal marshalls in San Antonio were alerted, and called Judge Parr to let him know they were on the way to seize the ballot boxes. Unfortunately, the courthouse where they were stored burned down before they got there, struck by lightning on a clear, starry Texas November evening.
