Obama in Senate: A newbie still getting lost in the corridors while running for President.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23540579/

“I’ve been very blessed,” Mr. Obama told the crowd assembled in March 2006. “Keynote speaker at the Democratic convention. The cover of Newsweek. My book made the best-seller list. I just won a Grammy for reading it on tape. “Really, what else is there to do?” he said, his smile now broad. “Well, I guess I could pass a law or something.”
-
...inside the Senate, the junior senator from Illinois was 99th in seniority and in the minority party his first two years. In committee hearings, he had to wait his turn until every other senator had asked questions. He once telephoned reporters himself to draw attention to his amendments.
-
He was cautious — even on the Iraq war, which he had opposed as a Senate candidate, he voted against the withdrawal of troops. He proposed a drawdown only after he was running for president and polls showed voters favoring it.
-
He disappointed some Democrats by not taking a more prominent role opposing the war — he voted against a troop withdrawal proposal by Senators John Kerry and Russ Feingold in June 2006, arguing that a firm date for withdrawal would hamstring diplomats and military commanders in the field.

This guy? President? :eyes:

and he's run a far better campaing. She's fucking useless. Her Senate career has hardly been stellar. She's a fucking joke as far as I'm concerned, and she should get the hell out before she's completely humiliated.

Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 07:32 PM by MagsDem
Only in Obama land. <sigh> Damn, with the media fawning all over him and attacking her constantly he should be winning in a walk. Shouldn't he? But he's not.

27. Considering it should have been over by Feb 5th, according to
HRC, why is she still trying to play 'catch-up'?

http://baltimorechronicle.com/2008/010308Burns.shtml

<snip>On Dec. 30, when Hillary Clinton wrapped up with George Stephanopoulos on the ABC Television Sunday talk show "This Week," she signed off by absently summarizing the primary season: “It’ll be over by Feb. 5.”<snip>

Perhaps more humility and less arrogance would have helped her a bit. You think she overestimated her popularity?

15. LIke what?
He doesn't have a single accomplishment in the senate or in the state senate for that matter that wasn't handed to him specifically to enhance his political career. He was a state senator three years ago, and has been running for president since the day he entered the senate. What has he done?

23. I dont know how good your memory is but at first, all the media...
did was shove Clinton down our throats and how she was the next president. They didn't start covering Obama more until the American people started to vote and he started and continues to beat her. Was the media supposed to ignore the candidate that keeps beating the big name candidate? That would be strange but maybe Clinton supporters want her name in the news even if she is losing? This selective memory shit that goes back and forth on this board is amazing.

31. Lincoln served only one term in the United States House of Reps and then left.
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 09:58 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
The rest of his political experience came from work within the Illinois government. You can't take all of Lincoln's work and compare it only to Obamas work in the federal government. Obama served two and a half terms in the Illinois senate. Lincoln served four terms in the Illinois House of Representatives.

I wouldn't compare the Lincoln and Obama either, but you should at least be honest about the differences.

To compare Obama and Lincoln is ridicuous. In this modern time a good leader has to have tremendous knowledge of the world we live in, proven leadership experience, excellent judgment, honesty and integrity...
OK I'm dreaming. I am not at all thrilled with what we have to look forward to as a leader.

Hillary and McCain are so buddy-buddy why would we want another "Washington Insider". Everyone on both sides always wants someone from outside the club and when it happens "oh he doesn't have any experience". Give me a f'n break, Washington is broken and the same old people aren't the fix we need.

28. Not a chance
Hey, if the guy is the nominee I wish him luck. I'll even push the button for him in November. But he's not going to draw the GOP voters he needs to win the general election and he will force a good many Democratic voters either to stay home, not vote for a President, or worse, push the button for McCain. He doesn't have the crossover appeal that Senator Clinton has to a large portion of traditional GOP voters.

It might be we are seeing a lot of young people (and older ones too) actually creating a populist movement. Or it might be the only way Karl Rove could figure out to keep the GOP in power. I don't know. I kind of lean towards the latter but then I've got an awful lot of tin foil here in the house.

Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 03:23 PM by SoCalDem
and he LIVES there..

If he did ever go on a "whole house" tour, he'd probably get lost & they'd have to send Barney to look for him..

If navigating senate corridors is a prerequisite for running for president, then perhaps the lead cleaner from the maintenance crew would be the preferred candidate.. He/she probably knows those buildings like the back of their hand :)

we know that Johnny Mac isn't even embarrassed by his own party's degredation of him. As a party we ought to focus less on America's Democratic Idol race and work to defeat the elephant that's already in the room.
