Scorched Earth: Obama Already Has Black Vote, So Clinton Racializes Contest With Ferraro
It is no coincidence that Ferraro came out of her hole right before the Mississippi vote. Knowing that Obama would already overwhelmingly win the black vote, Clinton decided to put out another thuggish hit(wo)man to play it in her favor by trying (once again) to turn Obama into Jesse Jackson and peeling off some white voters.

No one really believes that Obama is not an exceptional talent and deserved of his shot at the title, even as much as the former First Lady of Arkansas with her 35 years of experience.

However, rather than make a straight forward argument, the Clinton camp is looking to draw him into a racialized trap. While she could hardly distance herself from Bill Clinton, Ferraro is more along the lines of Bill Shaheen (or Bob Kerrey...or Bob Johnson) as she is big enough to get press coverage, but far enough away for plausible deniability.

After suggesting that Obama was a drug dealer and would let your children die in their sleep (take that Zell Miller!), this hardly new ground for Hillary Clinton's "kitchen sink" approach ("urinal" is more like it).

You may think that this is great strategy (for her), it is a terrible blow to us (the Democratic Party and citizens generally). Besides further degrading the political system, it weakens us in November no matter who wins and takes away the Democrats moral high ground for decades.

If these fear-and-smear tactics continue, we will be left with nothing but scorched Earth. Not bad for someone who cannot feasibly win the contest without turning the convention into a smouldering inferno.

1. It's bad for the whole country, not just the party.
Black people have been shit on by this administration (see Katrina) and for factions of this party to race-bait like Ferarro has done is a betrayal is horrid.

5. Obama's accusations against Ferraro have no merit
The smear campaign is being conducted by him.

seem blind and deaf to their own candidates faults. Kind of reminds me of the 19% who approve of *

6. I know that being an idiot handicaps you somewhat in your analysis, but still...
"It is no coincidence that Ferraro came out of her hole right before the Mississippi vote."

Her remarks are from February 27

Two weeks ago.

And published a couple of days ago.

The reality is that the Obama campaign chose the day of the MS primary to pitch a fit about the comments.

9. This broke on the blogs a couple of days ago, for god's sakes. I still read

your posts and don't recognize you as the same lucid, funny person who used to post here. I hope you return soon. The old K&H is missed, at least by me.

12. So why was she on fox news etc. today?
Pass this stupid argument off on someone else. Ferraro's comments were big news here yesterday, it's hardly surprising that they should get responded to today.

16. Yikes! LOL!
You really have been hanging around DU a little too long. I am an actual person. You could have simply told me that the remarks were dated (unlike her recent media appearances) and I would have acknowledged it.

There is a difference between being a passionate advocate and calling someone an idiot. You really say alot more about yourself than you do about me when you talk like that.

8. It was opined tonight that she trotted out Ferraro and is taking this stance of
not distancing herself from the comments for benefits of Pennsylvania. "PA is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with a big white Alabama in the middle." They're playing to the white racist vote. Sorry, but they are. Its all they have left and they all need to be ostracized and shunned.

I absolutely cannot believe Howard Dean, Pelosi, Gore and Edwards are sitting by and watching this embarassment continue.

13. This began in South Carolina, before the primary
I don't know what triggered it, but I think it was when the AA poll numbers began to leave Hillary and go to Obama. This is when Bill came out with jaw-dropping race-baiting statements. It seems as though the more the AA vote abandons camp Clinton, the more obscene the assaults on the AA community.

A lot has been said about how Hillary is destroying the Democratic Party, dividing us deeply. I don't think most people have a clue as to what the extent of the damage is/will be.

17. Historically, Its Tied to Napolean's Invasion of Russia
But used more generally, as well. The Russians supposedly burned down Moscow and other cities to deprive the French armies of food supplies. Although Napolean was ultimately turned back, Russia took blood-chilling losses and left the countryside devastated.

And then McCain stepped in and conquered all, futhering the Bush Doctrine for the rest of his days.
