It is time to call out the bigots
I have seen enough. This primary season we have seen an enormous amount of bigotry spewed and I am not going to be quiet about it. I am not one of those people that screams racism or sexism at every criticism made of Obama or Hillary, in fact I have criticized both of them on a number of issues. But when I see people attacking Obama on the basis of his race or I see people attacking Hillary on the basis of her sex I am not going to put up with it and I am going to call people on their bigotry.

All those who say that Obama got where he is today because he is black are racist, and not only are they racist but they are completely ignorant of history. If being a black man were such an advantage for Obama it seems that we would have seen many black Presidents come before him as they would have been able to use their race as well. If being black were such an advantage in a campaign the Senate would be filled with blacks, but the fact is blacks have historically been underrepresented in every branch of government throughout this nation's history.

It was only a few months ago that we were hearing that Obama could not win because this nation was not ready to elect a black man President, now we are hearing he only got where he was because he was black. First we hear he is behind in the polls because he is black, now we hear he is ahead in the polls because he is black. If he is successful it will be said to be because of his race, if he not successful it will be said to be because of his race. There is no way of winning against racist attitudes, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Then there is this whole question of "Is America ready for a black President?" or "Is America ready for a woman President?" The answer to that question is of course America is ready, we wouldn't have to change a thing. An African American or a woman could use the same system the white men have always used, there is no new preparations our nation would have to make. The question is not whether America is ready because we don't need to do anything to get ready, the question is "Will bigots vote for a black man?" or "Will bigots vote for a woman?" It has nothing to do with America as a nation, it has to do with bigots and we can not frame the question in a way that glosses over the bigotry in this country.

Then then are those who have chose to focus on Obama's "Muslim background", of course Obama is not and never has been a Muslim but even if he was it would only matter if he was trying to bring his religion into his politics. Yes his middle name is Hussein, but the question is "why the hell should we care what his middle name is?" If you believe his middle name is a reason to vote against him, you are a bigot. Period. End of story. Hussein is a very common ethnic name, and to suggest that the millions of people who have that name have something in common with terrorists is bigotry.

We keep hearing about Obama playing the "race card" or Hillary playing the "gender card", but how often do you hear about the white male candidates playing the race card or gender card? Virtually never, because they don't need to play that card it has already been played for them. Our government has been dominated by white males since since our nation was founded, they have always had an unspoken advantage, and yet people only seem concerned about this "race card" or "gender card" when a woman or minority happens to be running. The very notion that race or gender can be played as a card to give a minority candidate an advantage is a false notion, anyone who knows even the basics of American history should know that this so called "race card" or "gender card" has never been effective at getting women or minorities elected and in fact race and gender have been used against non-white males since the founding of this nation.

There are plenty of criticisms that can be made of both Obama and Hillary without resorting to this disgusting line of attack we have been seeing. Everyone who resorts to these sort of attacks needs to be called on it. They can scream about political correctness all they want, but we know they are not politically correct they are politically wrong and they need to be called on their bigotry.

2. You know it's funny,
all of a sudden being a minority is being equated to having all the advantages. From a certain point of view.

Great post. K&R

4. Well I don't know that I call it funny...
But you are right, racists have really used the tactic of trying to make it appear as if they are the victims in recent years. Despite all the statistics that we still have a long way to go before there is equality in this country the media has allowed bigots to pretend that minorities have special privileges, it is rare that the bigots who use that tactic are actually called on their bigotry and confronted with the actual facts by our media.

3. You have stated the facts....like I said before I expected Racism
to be used by the Republicans not by or own Democratic candidate or their campaign teams.

There is something else that all of you need to understand..
Sequence of Events
1. Ferraro's statements are made public
2. Barack responds in defense
3. Ferraro says she is being attacked because of reverse racism
:wtf:

Now here is the classic but true method of supporting the message but using a diversion....

4. Hillary sent out her black Campaign manager to claim that Barack is racist. :wtf:

I was fired from a job years ago in TX by the same method....lot's of black employees, employer wanted to get rid of said black employees, employer hires black HR person to fire black employees for minor or no infractions. Then black HR person is fired....bwah..haw..haw..

5. I don't normally use the Alert links on posts much,
but I've used it several times tonight on some real whoppers.

Seriously. If you wear white sheets and burn crosses and drive pickups with Confederate flags, this isn't the board for you. Go away.

6. I have been pretty sickened by what I have read on here tonight as well...
How anyone could not see the racism in Ferraro's comments is beyond me, but to see so many DUers defending her makes me absolutely sick. I have a feeling there will be a few well deserved tombstones in the next couple of days.

11. I've alerted a lot tonight as well. I always feel like it when people defend

the indefensible actions of a certain presidential nominee but I don't. But the racism oozing out of the posts tonight is too much.

7. Excellent post....
And I will never forgive the Clintons if they succeed in turning Obama into a "Black Candidate" with their race-baiting tactics.

8. Yep. And all who agree with Ferraro are racist, even if they didn't actually say

that phrase themselves.

10. Yes they are...
There is no defending Ferraro's comments, and anyone who agrees with what she said is a racist and completely ignorant of history.
