Why are white voters presumed to be making decisions based on issues |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 11:08 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
And african american voters are presumed to be making choices based on race? Only 1/4 of white voters in Mississippi chose Obama.
Also, all presidential candidates in the GE have (combined) received 100% of the black vote, 100% of the white vote, and 100% of hispanic voters. They've all been white. In over 200 years, the U.S. population never met an african american who was a good candidate? Why are none of these election results called into question because all whites voted for a white candidate?

1. I wish I could recommend this 5 times. |

Think back to the days when blacks were 3/5ths of a person.
Well said.

2. I grew up in segregated Alabama |

and I can assure you that not all white voters vote on issues.
But I think that some blue collar whites think that they had it pretty good under Bill Clinton and they are hoping that Hillary will also be good for them.
I think some blue collar whites think that the high income whites supporting Obama don't understand their economic issues.

I have read posts that say Ferraro was correct because Obama won 90% of the african american vote in Mississippi.

9. How could anyone vote for someone who wasn't white in the GE? |
|
All candidates in the final GE were white. If you voted at all, you voted for a white male.

11. That's not the point. |

Obviously he knows nobody has ever won 100%. What he is try to see is that it seems a lot of people are saying those 70% of white voters went for Hillary because they think she is the better candidate with better positions, etc, but the 90% that went for Barack only did so because he is black. People are implying that all the black people in Mississippi voted based on race, but none of the white people did.

15. thank you for reminding us of that... |

...I've been slightly freaked out tonight listening to all the talk about the "72% - 27%" white vote for Hillary, and the growing theme that Obama is losing the white vote. And this right after he won Wyoming. It's MISSISSIPPI. What else would we expect? Howard Fineman made me feel better - odd that it was him - saying that in GA, Obama got 43% of the white vote, and he explained that GA has advanced much further than MS in healing racial divides because of the large metro city of Atlanta - which MS lacks (no large metro center like Atlanta) - and the African-American elected officials who have smoothed the way for better relations in that state. MS has a way to go on this, he said.
I feel better. :)

16. by that standard, 90% of white votes against Obama are based on race |
|
:eyes:
the people that denigrate Obama's support based on race are never willing to apply their conjecture to white voting behavior.
