Florida Congressmen opposing revote mainly *Hillary* supporters ... link

This is very surprising to me- I thought that winning a Florida revote was Hillary's best way to catch up to Obama in the popular vote and show the superdelegates they should select her. Now she can't even accuse Obama of wanting to suppress the revote because her own supporters put a stop to it.

I'm sure she has her reasons, but I'll be damned if I can see them right now.

1. You actually mean a new primary.
There's no such thing as a "re-vote."

2. They just want this nightmare to end, like most Democrats do. We have this election if we just start
gathering around Obama now.

3. They don't want to re-vote because they want the primary count
as is-I would think.

4. They want to seat the delegates that HRC would have won if FL's primary had counted
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 12:19 AM by Melinda
In other words, all 210 delegates for HRC, and none for Obama.

12. If that's the way they voted then that's the way is should be.
If BO had his way any state that he didn't win would be re-voting

17. Florida is NOT winner-take all
No Dem contests are. Hillary would get about 105 delegates (50%), Obama would get about 70 (33%) and Edwards could theoretically get 30 or so (I can't recall if he quite got past the 15% minimum threshold many states have). Hillary's net gain from seating them as-is: about 35.

5. A re-vote will cause the margin to shrink dramatically in Flroida and they know it
The Florida democrats want the delegates seated as is which won't happen.

Hell, a re-vote in Michigan and I bet he wins that state.

6. I live in Florida and....
am on an Obama Florida support mailing list. I am seeing a TON of people saying that people in Florida (especially Democrats) did NOT vote because they thought that their vote didn't count. I think Hillary might be in for a surprise as I know that the large town that I live near here has a great big black population and they were disenfranchised in the 2000 election and in 2004 they made sure they got out. They are even more upset this year now that they were disenfranchised once again. I think it will even be worse this time around. I hear the Florida people are organizing to make sure their vote is heard along with new voters. And, this is in a particularly "Red" part of the state, too, where Bush routinely visited....so, Hillary could conceiveably bite off more than she can chew....

7. Thats a very good point
I can't remember where I read this, but supposedly the democratic turnout percentage in Florida was lower compared to other states this primary season. This is because because many Democrats didn't think their vote would be counted.

10. You see a ton of dumbasses saying they didn't vote?
Why didn't they? They were told to by the florida party and all your reps. Why did they ignore those directions? And how come none of them have contacted the media to say they didn't vote? Because they look dumb saying that?

11. it is being talked about here in Florida.....
there was also the homestead exemption on the ballot and many who don't own homes (and are poor Democratic black voters) did not feel the need to go. Vote didn't count. Don't own a home. It was the perfect storm. They just stayed home. You have to live here to get the feel for what was going on. Crist went on the air promoting the homestead exemption thing to get all the rich voters out as it was giving them more money in their pockets even when the city leaders were saying that it was a bad idea. Now, Crist is the one who wants the delegates seated. He was the one who said to move it up.

It was clearly in the local media that "your vote doesn't count"......no secrecy.

I am Independent and couldn't vote anyway except for the exemption but now I am registering Democrat and I'm sure others will do the same thing. After all, a lot of people here registered from Republican to Democrat when Kerry was running so that they could "skew" the vote. It is a very common thing here and wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't happened in other "open" primary states or even in Mississippi tonight and is why they can't figure out why Obama lost white voters. They were probably re-registered Republicans who want Hillary in now......

16. If they are so concerned why didn't they get off their duffs and go
vote like thousands of others did? They were told there delegates would probably be seated.

8. she doesn't want a new primary
With Edwards in the old primary, she really got a big win. If she wins by the same % now, but both add up to 100%, i don't think she gets anywhere near the same delegates.

9. I'm always surprised when people think Hillary wants a re-vote.
Why would she? She would likely tie or even more likely lose.
She can only win with the super delegates override, and a claim that she was cheated out of FL and MI.
They object to mail, caucuses, the date, and so it continues.
