Can this be RIGHT? Obama got more than DOUBLE the votes McCain got...in MISSISSIPPI? |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 01:02 AM by Bicoastal
CNN: Obama got 253,441, McCain got 111,953. And that's with 99% of the vote counted on each side.
111,953 x2 = 233,906. 19,500 less than the Republican white guy. Words fail me.
And there's more. BOTH Dems, by themselves, beat ALL the Republicans on the Mississippi ballot (McCain, Huckabee, and Paul). And Hillary herself beat McCain, but not by nearly so much.
Seriously, only a diehard masochistic Clinton supporter could look at the results of the Mississippi primary and be unhappy...

10. I heard on Rachel Maddow that this would NOT be the case. |
|
I believe a guest informed her that the republican voters would not be turning out in droves to vote for Senator Clinton doing the "limbaugh manure-maneuver" because they would have had to give up their votes for all the other local republican races. I am not quite sure which 'other' races she was referring to though. The fact that Senator Obama did so well though suggests to me that Senator Clinton did not get enough crossover votes to have made much of a difference at any rate.

3. I think you mean double, rather than half... |
|
or you got the order of the names wrong. Of course, since McCain has alreadymet the nomination target, that skews things considerably. But yes, it's interesting.

4. I hope that's a good sign. |

Though McCain already won, so there was no campaigning and turnout would obviously be lower.
But it does represent a trend, of more than twice as many Dems voting as Repugs.

Obama might be able to flip some Southern states , but Mississippi is not one of them.
McCain has the nomination, Repubs didn't need to show up.
2004: Bush defeated Kerry 59%-39% 2000: Bush defeated Gore 57%-40% 1996: Dole defeated Clinton and Perot 49%-44%-5% 1992: Bush defeated Clinton and Perot 50%-40%-9%
MS is one of the most solidly red states in the nation.

7. Why take time off work to go vote for your NOMINEE? That's already decided. |
|
Mississippi is RELIABLY RED. Republicans--die hard Republicans--make up the majority of the population. The place is gerrymandered to shit so Democrats can't get a decent foothold statewide.
I don't understand what you're "divining" from these results, but trust me, GOP turnout for this primary is indicative of absolutely NADA. McCain not winning the state in the general isn't gonna happen. No matter who the Dem nominee is.
GOP voters stayed home, because they already know how the story ends for them.

8. It is right because the Republican vote divided many ways on who they liked. Obama can do this. |

11. Why would they vote for Mccain? Rush told them to vote for HRC, and |
|
it looks like 74% of them (or close to that number), did just that..
I almost spit my coffee out when John King was MARVELING at HRC's "ability" to draw in republicans in Mississippi ..
Su-uure.. all those little red-dress wearing, bleached blondes & gun-rack toting, stars & bars flaunting guys down there just can't wait to vote for her in the GE
note to John King..Next time it's your turn...buy a clue :)
