Can Obama win the GE with only 25% of the white vote?
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 02:57 AM by Seeker30
Only 25% of white people voted for Obama yesterday in Mississippi, he will never win the GE with those numbers.

Add that with the fact that 3 times the amount of Hillary supporters will not vote for Obama compared to the Obama supporters that would vote for Hillary and it is clear the only way to win in November is by having Hillary as the nominee, it is for the good of the party.

14.  25% Of White People That Were POLLED Said They Voted For Obama In MISSISSIPPI...
The rest of your argument is also seriously flawed also. Barack has much lower negatives going in than Mrs. Clinton. He has the potential of carrying states that she has no chance of carrying, such as VA, GA, and CO. Not to mention she has completely alienated the black vote, so she has the potential of losing traditional blue states as well.

17. Yeah, that was Mississippi
Gore and Kerry won less than 20-percent of the white vote in that state in the general election. Any Democrat who manages 25-percent+ in that state is doing well, sadly. (And yes, unlike many DUers, I know there's a difference between primaries and general elections; I'm just noting the results from recent general elections for the sake of comparison.)

As to the whole "Hillary supporters will not vote for Obama" claim, well, a few things 1) Those were Mississippi voters; if you consider how MS votes on race more than perhaps any other state, you know exactly what that implies, 2) No way in hell Mississippi votes for the Democrat in the general no matter who we nominate, and 3) That statistic likely represents the influence of a number of people that aren't Democrats and won't be voting Democratic in the general election- including "Limbaugh Democrats."

Look, I know what the numbers said in our primary, but, to be frank, no one campaigned much here. It's like Tennessee didn't really matter to either campaign, so I don't consider the vote here to be very accurate.

23. Hillary strategy = convince superdelegates that a Black can't win the GE.
While it has always been likely that McCain would play to whites' fears of a Black candidate, it is disheartening that Clinton's playing of this card will give him political cover during the GE, when he does this.

25. Does This Really Have to be Spelled Out?
There were two party primaries yesterday with two major candidates on the democratic ballot. The percentage of any group that Obama received versus Clinton and McCain and any other candidate has no bearing on what percent he will receive in the general versus one Republican opponent.

Mississippi is a white-majority Southern state, although not by as large as margin as many others. Not that the Democrats have been counting on Mississippi, much less the white vote in that state, but Obama's win actually bodes pretty well.

in the PRIMARY in Mississippi doesn't translate to Obma will only get 25% of the white vote across the country in the GE,

Don't be so stupid,

What's clear is the Hillary and her supporters keep playing the race card and I find it fucking disgusting.
If Hillary supporters are such assholes that they'll refuse to vote for Obama in the GE, fuckem.

"So You Think We Should Turn Our Party Over To The Racists" (that's directed at you)

for a prime example of how Obama supporters will lie, and spin comments to achieve the goals of their campaign of elitist hatred. Get a clue, these people hate anyone who does not fall to their knees at the alter of Obama. They obviously don't give a shit whether HRC supporters vote for him if he wins the nomination, simply because they are delusional enough to believe some sort of divine intervention will crown Obama president. That they believe this divine intervention will come in the form of disgruntled Repug voters, only reaffirms the disconnect to reality. They are the Dem version of Bush's 2000 and 2004 fanatic base. Thanks.

He doesn't have only 25% of the white vote in head to head national match-ups against McCain.

Democratic Party Primaries <> General Election

The anecdotal claim that there are "Three times" the number of Hillary supporters who would refuse to vote for the Democratic Party nominee unless it was Hillary really only goes to show the lack of quality and character of "three times" the number of Hillary supporters. :eyes:

Not that I really believe that number, I believe that most people will come around if their candidate loses and do the right thing. You just have to go through the letting go process first.

Across the country, Obama has won every demographic: women, men, black, white, poor, rich, liberal, moderate, Indy.

Hillary has one demographic base that Obama hasn't been able to tap: Over 60, the senior citizens.

He may only win 25% of the white vote in MS. But, shit HIllary can't win more than 10% of the black vote anywhere, or more than 50% of the Democratic vote across the country. Your argument is lame.

Her only stronghold that he has yet to take from her is the 60+ vote. Your argument is still very lame.

62. Do you think 75% of the white people in this country are so happy
with Republican rule they will vote in another 4 years of it? This country can't take 4 more Republican years. McCain thinks the only problem with the free trade agreements is that there are not enough of them. He has no concept whatsoever that the economy is in the dumper because American manufacturing jobs that paid well are now gone, replaced by burger flippers and lawn care guys. He's a Bush clone on the Iraq war and is just whacky enough to go after Iran. And, of course, all we need is a few more 'pukes on the Supreme Court. If 75% of white people are so stupid as to vote against the black guy because he's black (or because they're in a snit because Hillary wasn't the nominee), we deserve whatever we get. Thank heavens my husband is a Canadian.
