Republicans look at the "primary process" very differently than Democrats...
First of all, they don't believe in any of this "proportionality" baloney. They believe that the person with the most money has the right to buy their way thru the first primaries in a winner-take-all process. After that, they spend nothing on promoting themselves in the primary. They do not care how many votes they get in Mississippi. They are saving their bullets for the general election.

The Democrats, on the other hand, look at the votes they get in the primaries as some indication of how people will vote in the general. For example, did you know that last night in Mississippi, Hillary Clinton got 20,000 more votes than did McCain, Huckabee, and Paul combined on the Republican ticket? Yet, she lost to Obama by almost 100,000 votes!

From appearances, we would say that Mississippi is ready to give the Democrats a landslide in the general election. Republicans are perfectly content to let them think that. They have their nominee. The primary process is mostly a nuisance to Republicans. It is a slug-it-out free-for-all for the Democrats.

Also, the Republicans let the Democrats define themselves in their intra-Party squabbles and then use their disagreements against them in the general election. In effect, the Democrats create the narrative for the Repubicans. For example, John McCain will say that Hillary Clinton said that Obama was not ready to be Commander in Chief. Then the Democrats go on the defensive in the general election. It is all so predictable.
