Hillary Can Only Win Big States W/Pre-Existing Democratic Machinery. If She Had To Organize
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 10:12 AM by cryingshame
and build grassroots in the bigger states the way Obama has, she'd have been crushed long ago.

Pennsylvania is a case in point.

And when the primary season is over and the GE comes and goes, Hillary and her husband will go back to ignoring Democrats who don't live or operate in that machinery.

1. I had that same thought the other day.
I think there's merit to it. In PA with Big Eddie in her corner pressuring other state pols; she's got an advantage. I wrote a letter to Luke Ravenstahl pointing out why he should endorse Obama and I hope he does; although he might fold since Rendell holds the purse strings.

3. and do the polls portend Obama will carry
Wyoming, Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, etc; come November. Lets look at where one excites the Democratic base and will it build a successful coaltion come November. If polls say Obama will add add those states to the list of Democratic states, then praise God. he's our man.

4. relying on that machinery.........
is also the a symptom of the problem that politicians are beholden to the state and county leaders that they put in the position of guaranteeing them their constituency. if obama has been relying primarily on motivating the the voting public then the people would be whom he is responsible to and a governor, or congressman, or mayor. think of what Randell had to see coming to him if he is going to got out on national television and claim that only the big states should be the determiner in who is chosen in a primary when the leading candidate has the higher delegate count, popular vote, and more states won. he knows it's a foolish statement. what does he get in return for making it?

6. no, the "real" democrats are the ones in all 50 states. Or is that too subtle a point.
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 10:41 AM by cryingshame
it may be lost on you and Hillary supporters and the Clintons themselves, but Super Delegates and Democrats living in oblivion understand it.

7. You mean the "socially liberal, economic conservative" types, right?
The ones that were called LIBERAL REPUBLICANS a generation ago. :puke:

These "Democrats" are wrenching our party to the right.

8. Yes, let's have a Stalinist purge of the ideologically impure during an important election
That spells "success" in so many ways. :sarcasm:

11. I'm sorry, but in a big tent, not everyone is going to be like you
If orthodoxy and homogeneity is important to you, you can join the Nader campaign.

We have a broad platform in the Democratic Party, and anyone willing to put aside their specific differences with it and support the party is worth of being a Democrat. Marginalizing Democrats is a job for Republicans and their proxies.

I'm sure you can find Free Republic on your own.

12. I agree with you! "Broad platform" = pander to ANYONE to win!
And for sheer hilarity, this takes the cake: "I'm sure you can find Free Republic on your own."

So we should just accept that rightward drift of the Democratic party, or else become a Republican? What a dim statement!

13. We should accept what the grassroots wants
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 11:39 AM by theredpen
And the grass roots wants to be farther left.

It's the DLC that has been pushing the party right in opposition to the grass roots. Of course, if you understood grass roots activism, you'd probably have a donor star.

:hi:

And I'll get a donor star when this site ceases to be the home away from home for LIBERAL REPUBLICANS. Comprende ahora?

15. Hilly is too galvanizing to have grass roots... hence the scorched earth
policy of passive-agression she is running.

Your comment of "machinery" made me think of this:

16. And they have been building that machinery since 1992.
That is an excellent point. That is exactly why she loses in those "other" states.

We're just going through the motions now. Obama will dust himself off in a little over a month and we can start going after McCain.
