How many Bush voters were duped into that compassionate conservative BS?

into believing he was a "compassionate conservative" the first time around? I honestly think a large number thought he would be a moderate and don't see how Bush can win them back at this point.

If some of them swing over and we retain most of those Gore voters, we should do ok.

1. I think you are right.
Many people who were fed up with the harsh policies of the Reagan/Bush I era flocked to Clinton in '92. A lot of them must have felt safe voting for Bush II because of his (empty) rhetoric of compassion, but how's that saying go? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me ... can't get fooled again? ;-)
