Hillary's failure to immediately REPUDIATE Geraldine Ferraro . . .
and her racist comments, can lead to ONLY ONE conclusion . . . that Hillary Clinton, and her campaign, think they gain a tactical, political, advantage when her surrogates, like Ferraro, PLAY "THE RACE CARD."

In its desperation, the Clinton campaign is DEVOLVING into something VERY, VERY UGLY.

As a middle-aged white guy, I find this suggestion - which Hillary Clinton is specifically NOT repudiating - that Barack Obama is an unqualified, "affirmative action hire," to be extremely offensive. I can only imagine the ALIENATING EFFECT that this Rovian RACE-BASED, FEAR-MONGERING is having within what, historically, has been the "most solid" voting block within the Democratic coalition - the African-American community.

Anybody who has read my Journal knows that I have always argued that, as Democrats, Obama supporters have an obligation to support Hillary Clinton if she becomes the Democratic nomination. I think the Clinton campaign's "kitchen-sink" strategy is MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE, and, every day she continues to use it, makes it harder, and harder, for me to make, and win, that argument.

1. Ms Ferraro spoke truth. You find it ugly for political purposes
Others may disagree, agreeably.

3. So you believe that Obama is lucky to be black, because he's nothing
without the benefit of his skin color?

4. You're lucky that you're successful in your job.
If you weren't a woman, you wouldn't have the position you enjoy.

How does it feel?

6. Ms Ferraro was projecting her own limited success and placement on a ticket long ago
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 11:48 AM by havocmom
on someone else. She was a token and not an especially shiny one. Her remarks about the accomplished Mr. Obama were beyond the pale and her suggestion that he not rile up people like her certainly smacked of 'keep your place, boy' out of date white supremacist arrogance.

Most of America seems to have moved beyond race as a qualifier. Too bad some so called progressives haven't made the progressive leap past skin color as a means of calming their own anger at failing to achieve some personal goal. Geraldine has been UGLY and pathetic in this matter. She has not been the political success and ground breaker she seems to have hoped and she is displacing her anger at an innocent man.

Fuck her and the racist arrogance she rode in on.

edited for typo. Hard to type when one is seeing red.

9. So if a white man is successful, it's because of his qualifications ...
but if a black man is successful, it's because of the color of his skin? Is that true for all black men or just Barack Obama? So I guess that means that George W. Bush is president because he's a well-educated, hard worker. :eyes:

Any way you look at it, it's an offensive and racist thing to say. I can't believe that some DUers are actually willing to defend this as mere politics. Saying that someone has only achieved success because of their skin color is NOT politics as usual, especially not in the Democratic party.

16. I suppose we could disparage accomplished people of every
race and persuasion then. Perhaps Jewish slurs are ok because they are 'truth'. The day that slurs are ok on our side is when we become them. Apparently being a repug is not a scary prospect to you.

2. I don't think Hillary is a closet bigot or anything. But I find her pandering to her bigot base,
morally apprehensible. It highlights her blinding pursuit of power at all costs. So very Machiavellian. So very neo-conservative.

8. Agree. Clinto is not racist, but sadly, not above using racists for personal gain
Throwing dirt on the Clinton legacy to look taller in a campaign. Not pretty.

15. that's precisely right
she feels it will help her in PA and, because she, like her husband, does not look past the next election, it has become a great strategy.

5. I believe you need to re-look your position and start from the
premise that it was Obama that played the race card and blamed Hillary Clinton. A good starting point would be January 8, 2008 and proceed forward to the South Carolina primary. I have wrtten many times back in 07 that obama would be the one to play the race card. He did, along with a willing whoremedia that blasted the Clintons as being bigots and racist.

10. Yes this is a very deliberate strategy
These Clinton folks don't step out in front of TV cameras
without a very clearly delineated plan and talking points.
Ferraro did exactly what she was supposed to do.

Divisive? Yes. Manipulative? Yes. Racist? Yes. Effective? Yes.
That's a classic Clintonian strategy for you.
