28. Well, first and foremost, he's only halfway through his first
term as governor, and has repeatedly promised us that he will serve out his full term. He's actually used the P word, and I think there's zero chance that he'll break that promise.

6. Where did you come up with this list?
I would never have mentioned one of these people as an option. I can't imagine that any of them would help Kerry in the least.

9. why this list
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 12:58 PM by WI_DEM
these are people who have been mentioned on this board or elsewhere. I don't necessarily support any of them--but I don't count any of them off as possibilities to be on Kerry's ticket (except Lieberman). I think we all will be surprised by who he picks. He has already indicated that he is moving to the middle to win--so I don't expect a strong liberal to be his running mate. I really don't think he will pick any of his opponents for the nomination--including Clark or Edwards.

7. Warner of VA
I think he is an up and comer in the Democratic Party. The guy is a centrist, he's honest and he's doing his best to deal with the fiscal mess that is Virginia today.

He also has a really cool wife who will be a major asset anywhere she goes.

13. breaux would be a winner in my humble view
I don't know if he's interested because he's talking retirement but Breaux would be my pick from that list. Right now we have a lop-sided situation where the oil industry has a strong favorite, bring in Breaux, and they don't have to fight so hard for the dark side, they'll be satisfied their interests are going to be considered whoever wins. Breaux is well-known for being a moderate who can work well with everyone, and this could calm a lot of hysteria about Kerry being too far to the left. Not that I see Kerry as particularly extreme but the media at times has tried to practically paint him another McGovern. It would be hard to describe Breaux as some wild-eyed leftist, although I suppose they will try.

48. Just keep Breaux away from any highly controversial issues...
And he'd be fine. Again, he's a good democrat but has a fairly conservative voting record. Kerry could put Breaux on complicated fiscal issues that won't get much attention and tell him not to make any speeches regarding social issues.

19. Edwards or Clark?
How about them? Certainly they have more of a chance than Biden or Reid.

I don't know who I'd like - I like Edwards but the situation in several months may require somebody else. I'll be learning about Vilsack and Breaux. Edwards is my favorite for now, though.

22. Great List!!!
I voted for Warner. I've been saying for some time that I think that Warner ight be the surprise choice. He would be great in the South and would really help the Demo Senate candidates in the South. I also think that he could force Bush to spend some time and money in the South. It would be interesting to see a poll on whether Warner might make Virginia a playable state.

Yikes let's hope he stays at 0 votes in this poll. He wouldn't help the ticket at all even if he could score Montana's three electoral votes which I doubt! Montana's gone pretty far to the right recently.

29. I went with Mark Warner
My fave out of this list, though I still am rooting Mary Landrieu. I don't know where I read this, but a poster mentioned that she effectively moved the ticket both to the left and to the middle, and I agree. She would be an awesome campaigner, an awesome campaigner.

Because he "speaks so well".

Or maybe John McCain. Hell that could do it!

Naww... Why stop there? Let's just skip past the Republican-lites and go straight Republican. Bush/Cheney and then we won't have to worry about out-doing them- we'll BE them!

Don't Dream It- Be It! ;)

There are others on the list who I like more (Harry Reid & Janet Napolitano), but out of that list, Warner and Breaux would likely be more help to the ticket, electorally-speaking.

47. Breaux won't really corrupt Kerry...
He's not a DINO, just a centrist democrat. Chances are that if Breaux is VP he'll just play an insignificant role in major political issues and Kerry will make usage of him for things like senior citizens' affairs.

He's a great leader in the senate and always stands up for Democratic ideals. And he'll definately deliver South Dakota which is 10% more Republican than Democratic.
