Was it racist for 99% of white voters to vote for white candidates in previous primaries? |
|
In 2004, 99% of white Democratic voters voted for the white candidates running in the primaries. Only 1% of white voters voted for the black candidates.
This comparares with 95% of black Democratic voters who voted for the white candidates vs. 5% who voted for the black candidates.
In 2000, 96% of white Republican voters voted against the black candidate, Alan Keyes in the Republican primaries. In other words, a larger percentage of white Republicans were willing to vote for a black candidate than Democratic voters were.
Does the fact that, prior to this year, white voters have so consistently and overwhelmingly vote for white candidates and against black candidates, mean that white Democratic voters are 1) voting for white candidates because they're white; and/or 2) Democrats are racist; and/or 3) white candidates are where they are only because they're white?

Don't get mad at me. White folks made the rules. They can't change them now that someone has managed to get to the top of the pyramid despite them.
Also, you do know, don't you, that very few "African-Americans" are really 100% African or even 100% black? Most of us are full of white blood - thanks to the white slaveowners who impregnated our great great great grandmothers. So you'll have to understand why I'm not too receptive of this "Obama's not really black, he's half white" argument that suddenly has sprung to the lips of people now that Obama is doing as well as he is.
My grandmother was even "whiter" than Obama - her father was as white as his mother and her mother was part white, as well. And she even looked white. But she knew better than to walk around claiming "I'm really just as white as I am black, you know," she would STILL have been spat upon by this country. She couldn't vote, even though the 15th Amendment supposedly protected that right as far back as 1865 and even thought white women had enjoyed that right, unencumbered, since 1920.
So, please spare me the "Obama is just as white as he is black" claims at this late date. He's black. Period.
If, as a country, we want to revisit the one-drop rule for future endeavors, I'm fine with that. But it's a little too convenient by half for this reassessment to occur at this very moment.
White folk have had 43 presidents of their very own. Black folks might finally get one who looks like us. Leave him alone. He's ours. :-)

Newsflash! We Are ALL BLACK Having Come From a Single Female Progenitor in Africa!
We ALL have black genes in us as the entire human species can be traced back to a single female ancestor in Africa.
She is called the Mitochondrial Eve by scientists.
Here read about her: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_Eve
We are all of one species, some of us are just darker or lighter than others!
And you could actually stop cranking the racial divide by not posing questions that emphasize the divide!

6. You're right - if I didn't mention this, no one would notice the racial divide |
|
I'd better just shut up and let everyone else have their say on matters of race . . .
