Prediction: Obama picks a woman for his VP |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 02:56 PM by BluegrassDem
No matter when Obama becomes the nominee, there's definitely gonna be a rift and a party in need of healing. Of course, he won't pick Hillary. However, I think to appease the female voters who so loved Hillary, I think he will pick a woman for his VP even though he probably never intended to.
Gov. Sebelius has been the most active campaigning on behalf of Obama, so I think she's at the top of the list. She along with Obama and his Kansas roots, might actually be enough to tilt Kansas blue.
For a woman, my own personal preference would be Claire McCaskill cause she's one tough cookie and she knows her shit. She's excellent during interviews and she's a very strong debater. However, she's a freshman senator and Reid probably wouldn't wanna risk that seat again.
Gov. Napolitano would be another option, but AZ is going to McCain, so not sure what she'd bring to the ticket.
Are there any female generals out there that Obama could choose?

1. Two words: Blanche Lincoln |

I know she's a Clinton supporter, but she's a popular southern politician, is moderate, and has a great last name. Obama-Lincoln

Hillary's supporters will go to Obama eventually (except the racists, who never would in the first place). Choosing a woman as VP would only cause more harm. maybe we would elect a woman at this time, and maybe a black, but on the same ticket, I doubt it.

Obama needs someone who can help appease people who think he doesn't have enough experience.

his VP will not be devisive. It will be someone boring but bulletproof who has been thoroughly vetted and checked out.

I don't think the USA is there yet. Hope I am wrong, if he does pick a woman -- but I hope he goes with someone like Dodd -- LOTS of experience and gravitas.

regardless of the nominee to offset McCains military record. I would suspect McCain more likely to pick a female VP - (Phyllis Schafly?)

Sorry, the party is split -- run on "Hillary hate" and pay the dues. An epic disaster in the making--and no undoing it.

19. Echh on either Lincoln or Sibelius |
|
Napolitano, ,maybe. But I am having trouble thinking of any women who would really lend him the clout on the national security front that he needs to go toe to toe with McCain -- not in reality, of course, but in the minds of the media and the public.
I once heard Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy speak, and I thought she was both brilliant and charismatic (she was at the time the highest ranking woman in the US military). But she is completely unknown politically, so I highly doubt she would be chosen.
I know, how about Sheryl Crow? I heard she helped bring peace to Bosnia, under very dangerous circumstances, back in the '90s!

23. National Security will be #1 Line of Attack |
|
Obama needs a VP with strong national security credentials. I recommend that he announce the people who he would appoint as Sec. of State and Sec. of Defense before the election. He needs to show that he has good judgement in putting the best people around him, and that he takes national security seriously. That will be the #1 line of attack in the Fall against him.

I think he needs to put a woman on or we may lose 20% of the Hillary supporters. That is if putting a woman on would matter to them.

|
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/samgrahamfelsen/gGBTgn The above article is about a set of retired US generals and admirals who attended a session to endorse Obama. A separate session was held for endorsements by former secretaries of the army and navy.
