Clinton 'saddened' by Spitzer's fall
<snip>

"Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton — no stranger to political sex scandals — sounded a short, sympathetic note Wednesday for disgraced Gov. Eliot Spitzer, saying she is thinking of his family.

"I'm deeply saddened by this turn of events and my thoughts are with Governor Spitzer's family during this painful time," Clinton said in a statement.

The Democratic senator from New York went on to say she looks forward to working with the incoming governor, David Paterson.

Clinton issued her statement through her Senate office, but the scandal has ramifications for her campaign.

When Spitzer steps down Monday, she will lose one of her superdelegates, those party officials whose support may end up deciding the Democratic presidential nomination if neither she nor Sen. Barack Obama show large gains in the remaining primaries ahead.

Spitzer, like the rest of New York's Democratic Party establishment, had been an outspoken booster of Clinton's campaign."

1. Has Bill Clinton made any comment?
I guess he probably won't touch this one.

2. She won't really lose a super over this. Lt Gov'r Paterson supports Clinton too
There is no right way to handle this, short of hanging the man out to dry. I assume Clinton's too loyal to do that.

I always welcome the sight of the mighty falling, but I think it'd be hard to find a way this would hurt Clinton

8. Paterson is already counted as a superdelegate

Things I heard and read earlier today were confusing about what happens to Lt. Gov position. I would think Paterson appoints someone but not sure yet (didn't grow up in NY so didn't have that in civics class!)

edit to add - sounds like it stays vacant; Senate is currently GOP-controlled.
In case of vacancy in the office of lieutenant-governor alone, or if
the lieutenant-governor shall be impeached, absent from the state or
otherwise unable to discharge the duties of office, the temporary
president of the senate shall perform all the duties of
lieutenant-governor during such vacancy or inability.

3. A lot of Democrats are saddened by Spitzer's fall
It was completely unexpected, and many had high hopes for him. That includes some fair-minded people who support Obama.

Anyway, it takes a talented contortionist to tie this mess to Hillary. The only "connection" is that he supports her, but that doesn't mean she's responsible for his private life. (Of course, I'm well aware that wingnuts, some Obama suppoters, and the media will think and act differently.)

10. I'm not sad! He should have kept his penis in his pants and he would not have a problem!
I have absolutely no sympathy for him. I feel bad for his wife and children but I have no sympathy for him!
