MARTIAL LAW BY JUNE 2004 SOLD BY 'NIGHTLINE'

Nightline Sells Martial Law, by Scott Loughrey

Will the US be under martial law by June, 2004? That is the impression some are expressing after witnessing a recent episode of Nightline (4/7/2004), with Ted Koppel. On this particular program Koppel is host to Richard Clarke, former Reagan officials Edwin Meese III and Kenneth M. Duberstein; former Clinton official Sally Katzen, author James Mann, and former Bush() official Richard Clarke. The subject matter is named The Armageddon Plan.

Because many US citizens hold favorable views of Richard Clarke he was playing a key role. His affability enables him to convey the dark plans of the Bush Regime to critical observers without alarming the unconcious masses. On this program Clarke was on to inform elite audiences that they better get used to the idea the Bush Regime will sponsor a cataclysmic event in order to plunge the US under martial law.

1. What exactly is the scope of martial law?
Because I think that if it is "just" troops in the streets, acting as policemen, then most Americans might actually feel "safe" to see them there. (I don't mean me, I'm thinking about Average Joe.) What else does ML entail? Educate me, please.

3. not sure, but I would imagine things like..
curfews, rations, loss of due process, confiscation of property (ie: guns), limited freedom of movement, etc.

They would have to do more that just be out on the street ready to shoot terra-ists, they would also have to make sure that each and every one of us has no terra-ist thoughts in our hearts...

the Bush Administration hates us for our freedom.

4. MARTIAL LAW
would include incarceration of suspicious persons in interrment camps with no legal rights. Basically, FEMA would have carte blanche to whack anyone who would resist and arrest anyone who is on the subversive lists. Centralized control of all utilities would enable FEMA to eliminate electricity, water etc to pockets of resistance. Full media control and shutdown of the internet would allow complete information control.

I doubt that "safe" will be what Americans will feel.

5. Thanks for that
I don't even think Average Joe would mind incarceration of suspicious persons in interment camps... you know how he thinks: "If you ain't guilty, then you don't got nuthin' to be worried about." Especially if such detainment is directed at those with brown skin.

However, I think rationing and curfews would definitely do the trick to slap some sense into Average Joe; but it will be too late by then.

Thanks for the info.

6. Love your Ann Richards avatar.
That is Ann, right?

She'd make one hell of a president.

12. Come see my kitchen
I have 'Ann Richards for Governor' pins stuck to my potholders! LOL

P.S. It's my belief that Rove did a "test run" on Ann when it came to election stealing, but that's another thread.

8. Shutdown of the Internet?
It's technically infeasible. Yes, they could shutdown the main switcing centers, but the nextwork could be reconstituted over just about any carrier service you want. It's designed to not shut down.

Usenet/UUCP could be reconstitued as a non-real time messaging network without a backbone, just usign modems to connect hosts intermittently. It's not fast, but it works.

If you never worked with that environment, perhaps you remember FIDONet and other message transmittal systems designed to carry messages without a full-time, backbone connection.

They could kill the web as most consumer know it. They couldn't kill electronic communications. That genii is out of the bottle and is never going back.

10. You are correct, but
as a tool of mass information dissemination, the net would be de facto disfunctionalized.

11. Martial Law & the US Economy
Wouldn't declaring martial law in the US cause the dollar and all US debt instruments to crash?

The US is supposed to be rock-solid as an investment. Even under the most horrific of circumstances, if the President declared martial law, it would be a signal that our government fears for its very survival. Imported goods would become exorbitantly expensive, undermining the entire economy.

Sure, the cheap dollar might improve exports, but at terrible costs to American workers, whose costs of living would skyrocket. The political reverbations would touch the markets of every industrialized nation with business interests in the US as well.

So, in a desperate effort to cling to power, any US Administration declaring martial law would probably throw the world into a global depression unlike any we have ever seen.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I just don't see martial law coming, if for no other reason than it would be "bad for business."

13. Depends on how you define "bad for business".
Sure, it would be bad for 98% of us, but the Power Elite would then be REALLY making big time money and totally sucking up all the capital. They would come out of the other end with total control of us all.

14. Bad for who's business
You and me and the vast majority of people in this country, yes. But for the rich and powerful in this country, it would become, as in the last Great Depression, a buying opportunity. Bonus for all of the fat cats would be shredding what is left of the middle class, and reducing most of the population to the level of serfs. And quite frankly, I think that this is what Bushco and the rest of the corporatistas in this country want.

Maybe with nukes, maybe with chemicals. What better way to get rid of the nuisance of checks and balances? Get ready for the U.S.P.N.A.C.!
