FYI...If you base your voting preferences on interactions w/ DUers... |
|
...you're an idiot, and you need to go outside. You know, like, where real people are and stuff. That's where politics happens. Not in here. This place is an asylum with electron bars on the windows. If you choose whom to vote for, or choose whom not to vote for, because of interactions here, you need help.
"Hillary supporters are awful! I won't vote for her!!11"
"Obama supporters are awful! I won't vote for him!!11"
A pure essence of stupidity, emitted from a stupid quasar deep in stupid space.
Don't be stupid. And go outside.
End transmission.

there are good articles in editorials and some good original observations, but the name calling and personal attack stuff mostly bounces off of me apart from making me wonder if the person who posted it is a paid shill.

I saw the bullshit Hillary's campaign pulled, that set the stage. Then seeing how reality-deficient her supporters are here, locally in person, and nationwide told me my instincts were right.
Good point though WP.

Back in 2000, during the debates, I realized Bush was not an ideal option. I had not made up my mind because at the time, I really had wanted McCain to get the nomination. Nonetheless I was leaning towards Gore simply because he appeared to have an intellect on him.
Here's what ultimate brought it home to me;
During the one debate, I listened to Gore spelling out, in relatively simple terms how he would approach medicare. He laid out the difference between then Governor Bush's plan and his, and he included a few numbers. Then Bush responded. Apparently what I thought was a simple layout had confused Bush, and apparently Bush's political instincts told him he wasn't the only one who was confused. He called Gore's numbers "Fuzzy Math".
Many laughed. I didn't.
Bush had just effectively turned the relative ignorance of millions of people into a point of support. That was the sign; this man would get support through ignorance. That was my instinct at the time, but I would never have imagined, ever, that it would become so monstrous a truth.
Now, Neither Clinton's nor Obama's supporters can be considered ignorant by any means, but something that is worth considering is how one's core supporters behave, because that may tell us something about the nature of the discussions we wind up having when their candidates are in office.
I am disturbed by the apparent tendency of many supporters to ignore behavior that is potentially harmful to the Democratic party. We've had nearly eight years of contention with people for whom Bush could do no wrong. We've had nearly eight years of counterproductive, even destructive policies that should have been met with much more contention had Bush supporters been more inclined to be critical of his actions and intentions.
I do not want to revisit a situation where the President's supporters are unwilling to consider his or her actions beyond reproach or question. I do agree that one must base his support of a candidate primarily on their positions, experience, and capability, but I also believe that it is important to take the character and attitude of a candidate's supporters into account when deciding on a candidate... especially when the respective candidates are otherwise quite comparable.
For someone on the fence who's considered all else, it is certainly an issue to take into account.
