That was an honorable move. Props to Obama.

1. Some people will accept no less than a pound of flesh.
I was one of those people who almost washed my hands of Obama, but quite honestly, I think he has more than made up for the McClurkin fiasco.

15. He has made progress
But we need to keep his feet to the fire on this one.

17. Why? He certainly has made it clear he doesn't agree with McClurkin...
...and has given more speeches against homophobia and speeches advocating equality for gay Americans than the wife of the man who signed DOMA.

And he has given no indication that he intends to repeat that unfortunate fiasco, so why keep hammering at it?

2. No he didn't
He was booked for one event, he performed that one event, he wasn't fired or forced to resign.

3. Seems to me that not inviting him back is a repudiation in and of itself.
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 07:18 PM by Liberal Veteran
In addition to making several speeches regarding how wrong homophobia is and publicly stating that he strongly disagree with McClurkin's views on gays.

"I have clearly stated my belief that gays and lesbians are our brothers and sisters and should be provided the respect, dignity and rights of all other citizens. And so I strongly disagree with Rev. McClurkin's views and will continue to fight for these rights as president of the United States to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division," Obama said.

Obama repeatedly has spoken out against homophobia in the black community and on several occasions to large church congregations.

4. Or it could be, as one of his campaign higher ups stated,
that they got what they needed from the event.

8. Feel free to provide evidence of that, otherwise it's just cynicism.
He's certainly said more about gay equality and denouncing homophobia than Ms. Clinton has and that's to his credit.

but if I hire someone to paint my house, he does it, and then I pay him and don't hire him to wash my windows did I fire him?

9. If he was a handyman and you chose to not have him do any more work on your house...
...that's a pretty good indication that one is not on the "will rehire" list.

13. or it might mean
I only needed my house painted. Only one state had an electorate that had a big gospel music presence and that is the one he hired McClurkin for.

18. That's certainly one hypothesis, but Obama had no reason to stand up in Georgia against homophobia..
....in a black church and denounce homophobia within the black community when also has a large black Christian community and isn't exactly known for being a bastion of gay equality.

For someone that has a cross on your rainbow flag, you don't seem to keen on seeing the best in people or forgiveness.

24. He did too. Knock it off already. Also... He is the ONLY candidate
that wants to get rid of don't ask don't tell & the Defense of Marriage Act.

So, what's more important? "words" or "actions"

Isn't that what you guys say... "just words"

Hillary isn't going to do away with them. Obama is.

29. Yep...Hillary says she wants to "leave it up to the states" which means...
...she'll throw us under the bus so fast we won't even see it coming.

The Clinton's have RARELY taken a principled stand.

They folded on welfare reform.

They folded on human rights in China.

They folded on workers rights with NAFTA.

They folded on Don't Ask Don't Tell.

They folded on their own Surgeon General because she made a logical remark about masturbation (which is infinitely better than teen pregnancy and STDs).

They folded on DOMA. Clinton didn't have to sign it.

And they want me to believe in them again?

...when obviously she has inflated her resume.

I don't trust Hillary. I find here cold, calculating, and addicted to power and unable to admit mistakes.

27. Wow. Talk about re-writing history...
The HRC (Human Rights Campaign) practically pleaded with Obama not to give McClurkin the stage and Obama chose to do so knowing the hurt it would cause for GLBT individuals. To now try to re-write history and say that he removed McClurkin as soon as it was "apparently hurtful" is wantonly misleading... Obama knew it would be hurtful but chose to do it anyway. Which is much worse than if he had done it and not realized the hurt he would cause.

He didn't "remove" McClurkin from anything - in fact, he continued with the concert knowing the objections of GLBT's. He didn't give a shit.

35. No props to Obama because he I'm almost positive
he knew that it was going to be "apparently hurtful," yet didn't give a shit.

Because Obama is the candidate of pandering. Her will suck up to anyone to get elected, which is why he is completely untrustworthy.
