DeFazio letter: Superdelegate warns Clinton, Obama to stop negative barbs

Superdelegate warns Clinton, Obama to stop negative barbs

At least one uncommitted superdelegate is tired of Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama going negative on the campaign trail.

In a stern letter to both Obama and Clinton, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), warned that in recent weeks "the long term goal of beating the Republican nominee took a back seat to the short term goal of proving one's viability by tearing down the other Democratic candidate."

“We lost sight of the general election, we lost sight of the true opponent,” he said, “and if we continue to be shortsighted, I fear we will lose in November."

DeFazio didn't exactly say that he'll endorse the first candidate who makes nice in the Democratic presidential race, but believes the two Democratic senators should focus on their Republican rival, Arizona Sen. John McCain, rather than each other.

"In the end, it is the candidate who can take the fight to McCain and win that deserves my support and, most importantly, the support of the Democratic Party," DeFazio said....http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/0308/Superdelegate_warns_Clinton_Obama_to_stop_negative_barbs.html

3. Hey thanks! Bullshit to you too. Hey, let me ask you something...
Is there anyway I can encourage you to become more of a human being & less of a stinky pit of stupid?

You were just posting the article.

My apologies to you but it is bullshit that they both need to stop.

5. Yes, everyone does know that. An SD can't necessarily say that.

10. That's right... but the the bullshit meter
just went off the richter scale at my house. :)

It's grossly unfair that she's starting all this and Obama gets lumped in with her when he's taken the high road every time..in fact, articles have been written about it.

14. Probably not.
But good on the Faz for using his vote for good instead of evil. If he'd already spent is vote, he couldn't have made that statement without fanning the flames one way or another (and it never would've gotten any ink).

6. Well he'll be hearing from me
I don't know what possessed him to step into the middle of this with his "both campaign" bullshit, but I guess since he did he opened himself up to hear from his constituents.

13. He's a good Congressman
Can't figure out why he won't run for Senate. But I sure don't know what he's doing here.

17. I've heard him say that the reason he doesn't run for the senate is he...
...thinks he can be a better public servant, with his accrued seniority & all, in the house.

When Bob Packwood crashed & burned he ran against Ron Wyden for the seat. It was kind of a bloody campaign. Hardball.

I think it's an honest & informed assessment that he's just fine where he is.

He would make a great senator. Very informed, very able.

19. Well it's his choice to make
I still have to decide between Merkley and Novick, so it's not like we're short of good candidates. I'm just perterbed because I thought it looked like he wasn't endorsing in order to stay neutral, but I don't see how he can't see that mistating the situation is anything but neutral.
