This is starting to disturb me... some posters here are lying about Wright
exaggerating the claims into exactly how the right-wingers would put it, interpreting it in the worst possible way. I think they are purposely doing this, out of spite for Obama. In my opinion, it is harmful and disloyal to the Democratic party. It is spreading right-wing memes.

Wright is not a bigot. Wright did not say that the U.S. deserved to be attacked, he just said we should not be surprised, that we helped create the political situation, and condoned similar behavior against other countries. This is, in fact, largely true.

I suppose everyones free to post what they want, even if it is lies, disinformation, and right-wing memes. I just wanted to voice my distaste of this, and think it is pitiful that Democrats(?) have come to this length to try to discredit Obama.

7. I saw part of the video. I'd say that he hates white Americans, yessirree.
Anytime someone gets up in front of a black crowd and yells about "white, rich people" who are running the country and causing "poor, black people" all their troubles...and then goes on for a bit speaking hatefully about "white, rich people." Yeah...I'd say he's made it pretty clear he hates "white, rich people" in America.

What is white and rich? Any caucasian (don't know if that includes latinos) who earns more than a poor person? Does it include middle class white people? If I aspire to have money and work hard to get it...that makes me a victim of his hatred?

Yeah, I'd say Obama's done for, unless he has a very good excuse for attending that hatemonger's church.

He's a jackass, and quite frankly I'm stunned that somebody as intelligent as Barack Obama could ever have name such a stupid jackass his "mentor".

36. A lot of black people believe this
I guess most white people don't get it, though. You'd have to have experienced a system of government that basically called you 3/5ths of a human being, a non citizen, an "inferior" race, and basically fought tooth and nail against having you sit at the same damn lunch counter as a white person, or drink from the same water fountain, or sit at the front of a bus, or even walk in certain establishments, or attend the same schools as others, etc. And it was THIS government which allowed and MANDATED by law. In state constitutions across this country, it was a CRIME to teach black children, and then, it became the law to segregate them like a plague on society from white children. It was THIS government that did that. So, when black people have a healthy distrust of what this government is capable of, I really don't see how that can be deemed unAmerican. It is American to question everything, including government. Thank you very much for your time.

53. Perfectly true, on average. Is it forbidden to say so?
Rich white men in this country are about the top 2 or 4 percent of asset holders.

Personally, I don't care. There are going to be a top 2 or 4 percent regardless of whether they are White or Asian or Black or from the middle east...but I don't think we should punish and shun a Southern preacher for saying so, in any case.

No person is truly good or evil. I'm sure Wright has done some good things in his life and has obviously said some bad things. Obama probably likes the good he saw in him but doesn't like the bad. Stop acting so self righteous. I think what Wright said was in really poor taste, but am I stupid to believe that Obama shares this kooks views re: rich white ppl? No not at all. Do I think Obama should disown the freak? Absolutely.

Just that alone will repulse most Americans. But "God Damn America " is like saying 'Fuck your Mother" to most Americans.
I think if he had said "shame on you America" it would have been a more effective sermon. But he didnt and it doesnt matter if he intended to.At least it wont matter with the way Americans are going to respond.
BTW please dont try to embrace or justify the saying "God Damn America" .It will just make the Republicans yell more loudly."See those Democrats, they really are America haters"

where is the media outrage on that? Where is Olberman's 'special comment'? (I've got a special comment for him).

Where is the denouncement of it from Obama?

The pastor was speaking about Obama, in support of him, when he said it.

Hillary hasn't been called names? We, women don't know what it's like to suffer such humiliation?

Obama should disavow it, personally, and reject the Revs. 'endorsement.'

Wright has, it would be news 24/7. People would be yelling for her to drop out, calling her a racist, and demanding she beg everyone for forgiveness for even knowing the guy. I'm sure KO would devote an entire week's worth of "Special Comments" about it. It's all so hypocritical.

This Wright thing bothers me on another level as well. Obama says this guy is/was his mentor. It means a lot to label someone your mentor, and therefore it calls into question Obama's personal philosophy... Is it similar to Wright's? How can you have a mentor like Wright and not agree with his basic ideology? Obama named his book after Wright's sermon--that means this guy must carry a great deal of influence with Obama.

from the pulpit period - a clear violation of 501(c)3 non-profit regs regarding churches.

And it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Robert Sherman (the atheist fond of filing lawsuits) somehow manages to sue this preacher or church as well.
