I congratulate all the Hillary backers for finally having something to be excited about!!
I'm glad to see so many Democrats so happy!!!

Actually, It's really amazing how much joy some Hillary supporters are getting out of this Wright story.

If my whole life revolved around DU, I'd think this Wright story is the biggest story since the Iraq war.

I work in a pretty big office, and didn't hear one person mention the story all day.

I came home and watched CNN, and they had a short piece on the story, but there wasn't really much drama.

I checked some political futures markets, which seem to be horrible at predicting primary winners, but which do a decent job of capturing the current cw. I think Obama's only down about 1 point for the day and still up on Hillary by nearly 50.

Then, I log onto this site, and it's like Obama was just caught spending $80,000 on hookers. This story is overwhelming this site right now. For some reason, I find it somewhat disturbing that people are much more excited here about this story (many gleefully excited) than anywhere else in the world. Are Democrats supposed to be happy about this? Is this all some massive joke that I'm just not getting?

32. Please try to keep up.
The tax returns that the Clintons have not released are from 2006 and before!

If, as you so deftly stated, those tax returns were filed in April 2008, there would be numerous penalties from the IRS.

Hope it helps!

50. Where did I mention anything about 2008?
I said she was releasing her tax returns to the public on April 15th. All previous tax returns are private information between IRS and the taxpayer unless the taxpayer wishes to disclose them. The IRS does not impose penalties just because tax returns are not disclosed to the public. The IRS imposes penalties only if you don't file at all or don't pay what you owe. Please familiarize yourself with tax codes and laws. Try Google

I've been reading the site forever, but just started posting recently.

I am positive I've never seen this site as crazy as it's been the past couple months.

There seems to be more hate and anger directed toward either of these candidates than there ever was to Powell, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, etc. etc. I'm not sure what it all means, but I don't think that it's a good thing.

40. To be honest...
I would go through phases of "ignore" and "not ignore" when I had the worst of them on the list.

Then Hillary left the Democratic Party, so I figured I no longer had to debate or even listen to her supporters. Now, even if I read a slight whiff of Hillary support, off to ignore they go.

Fortunately, I don't see all that many "ignore" replies on threads that I read, which leads me to believe that either a) most of these people are leaving DU or b) they only write responses on threads started by HillShills (which I don't see at ALL :) )

29. Catapult the propaganda...

An obscure blog leaks a story and the base repeats over and over (tsk tsk, did you hear about <insert swiftboat story>)

Then, after it bounces around the blogosphere, someone writes an article ABOUT the blogosphere's obsession and has it published somewhere (and with the wingnuts, hate radio picks up the ball).

Then the echo chamber really gets going... the cable news and finally the network news and big papers.

That's catapulting the propaganda.

The left hasn't really got the hang of this, but Hillary is sure TRYING.

It's not so much of it being a big story now, but how the repukes will use in, in conjunction with Michell's "not proud of America until..." ditty and Barack's not holding his hand over his heart for the National Anthem moment.

Dems can sweep this under the rug for now, but it will be back if Obama is the nom.

36. I agree that the Republicans will use it.
And actually, as an Obama supporter I'm glad this is coming out now. It was going to come out sooner or later, and now is really the best time for him. I'd actually prefer that it not be swept under the and that it gets exposure in the media so it won't be as dramatic when the Republicans bring it up in the fall. It also gives the Obama campaign time to formulate an effective response.

And guess what -- it is getting exposure in the media. But nobody seems to care nearly as much as apparently everyone on this board does. So, it's a fairly major story, but not the story of the year like it appears to be here.

One more point. I don't get Fox News so I'm not sure how they're reacting, but I've seen people much happier about this story on DU than anywhere else. That's kind of disturbing to me.

But compare the Spitzer coverage to this story. Compare the coverage of Hillary's mini-Tuesday "victory" to this story. Even Bill Clinton's Jesse Jackson remarks and Nevada caucus shenanigans got more coverage than this story.

I'm not saying that nobody will care that Barack Obama has some loony pastor. Obviously some people in the real world will care about it too. But I think its importance has been just a tad bit overstated on this site, especially when any Democrat who follows politics has known about Obama's nutty pastor for months. I just don't think this story warrants an entire forum-full of posts like it's getting here.
