My advice to Obama and his supporters on the Wright thing.
Three words - calm, cool and collected.

I'm very bad at taking my own advice - I lose my temper a lot, as some of my posting history shows, but Obama, thankfully, is very good at cool, calm and collected.

He'll need to do some damage control.

He'll be asked about Wright in the next few days.

Stay calm, cool and collected.

Mention that he disagrees with what Wright has to say in those clips that are being played over and over.

Then redirect the conversation to real issues.

He'll have to do it again - the media wants this story to have legs. The reporters will continuously pester him. The right wing hatemongers will keep bringing it up.

Lather, rinse, repeat - repeat mentioning his obvious disagreements with Wright, but don't raise the voice. Stay calm, and firm, and move back to the issues. He'll have to do this repeatedly.

Eventually, the media will get bored with this story. It's only a matter of time before they go "Look! A dead white girl!" or flit to Paris Hilton's latest meltdown.

It will pass.

1. Obama reportedly donated $25,000 to Wright's church last year.
That's what Obama's tax returns show. It will be hard for Obama to distance himself from Wright.

4. It is a church. People usually give weekly. I know they have a ton of social
programs. Maybe they donated for some of those too. Giving $$$ to your church isn't exactly a big deal.

16. It's called a tithe. 10% for churches and synagogues
mandated in the Old Testament. Attack Obama for that and you offend every Christian in the US who tithes.

2. And it will re-emerge before the GE
Already people are asking how any father could take his daughters to a church where the pastor is making sexual motions from the pulpit.

8. That's alright, McCain's got Hagee.
Hagee puts Wright to shame in the insanity metrics.

So do Pat Robertson, Oral Roberts and the rest of the religious right.

6. Better to flush this out now than in October.
There is nothing here. Nothing here is a surprise. Obama and his able campaign have known this would be used for a very long time. I am sure they are well prepared.

15. They're not gonna run it 24 hours a day.
That would cut into their Brittney time.

Maybe that's the nice thing about learning a little bit about how the MSM works.

They're vicious, and they've got an agenda, but money trumps everything, including right-wing sympathies, and because of the constant ratings war, they have the attention span of a tsetse fly.

Their weaknesses can be exploited...

7. This phony controversy will backfire
Leading black clergy group backing Obama

ABC's Ross reported Wright's 9-11 remarks -- but not that Obama disavowed them

Obama will be fine! Hillary's failed leadership skills were exposed in her handling of Ferraro's racist comments.

9. The more the media airs this story, the more the truth will come out.
They'll try to hide the fact that Obama's disavowed Wright's batshit insanity, but while omitting that fact will work if you air the story once or twice then move on, it won't if the story has legs. If it's something that FOX Noise is going to smear all over the airwaves for a month straight, eventually people will hear Obama's side, see some facts, and things will backfire on the swiftboaters.

13. Obama replied today,He should have run out of the room instead.

Q: I don't know if you've seen it, but it's all over the wire today (from an ABC News story), a statement that your pastor (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side) made in a sermon in 2003 that instead of singing "God Bless America," black people should sing a song essentially saying "God Damn America."
A: I haven't seen the line. This is a pastor who is on the brink of retirement who in the past has made some controversial statements. I profoundly disagree with some of these statements.

Q: What about this particular statement?

A: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it's important to judge me on what I've said in the past and what I believe.

If we panic, the media will eat us alive.

Like I said, the media has weaknesses.

FOX Noise will put Wright in a tape loop and play it over and over, but they can't do it forever without getting their lunch eaten by their competitors.

Obama should go out and make news - make a few statements on the matter publicly disavowing Wright's incendiary statements, but not go out of the way to say it - just disavow, then move on. Lather, rinse, repeat, mention he's disavowed several times already. Above all, stay cool.

As I mentioned, it's only a matter of time before they have to interrupt that tape loop and move to another celebrity meltdown or dead white girl. They have to, so they can keep their ratings. Just repeat the truth as many times as possible on as many media outlets as possible, and the damage will be minimal.

Don't worry! The media, Clinton and the Freepers all howled on Rezko for weeks and months, and Obama shrugged it off. The media eventually got bored with Rezko, and they will get bored with Wright. It'll pass! And the timing's actually not too bad on this - it's still several weeks before Pennsylvania - plenty of time for this to play itself out without lasting damage.

21. Mojo,
God help us all if this is what we do until the primary. I give many thousand dollars, to a Southern Baptist Church whose statement of faith says that wives are subjected to their husbands. Oh my god, I give money to an anti-feminist church, Catholics give to their churches that oppose abortion, Oh my god. Many Christians are homophobes, oh my God. The Sky is falling, the sky is falling, we are all going to die. Run, pestilence, fear.

22. Shameless self-kick. KEEP COOL, FELLOW OBAMA FANS!
I'll say it again.

It'll pass.

Obama just has to do what we need to do - stay calm, cool and collected.

Obama should continue making statements like he has - Wright's like that uncle everybody's got that says the wrong things sometimes, of course he disagrees with him.

Don't make a fuss. Remind them of the reasons why so many people have voted for him - hope, "Yes, we can!" Redirect the press' attention to the issues and to the election.

It'll have to be done over and over and over again, because powerful people want this story to have legs. But remember this fundamental fact.

Obama did nothing wrong.

Obama's running for President, not Wright.

Stay cool, stay calm. It'll pass.

It may take a while, but like I mentioned before, the press has weaknesses - they can be exploited. Like a very short attention span. They will get bored. They will hear the siren call of ratings mania, and move on to a celebrity meltdown or a dead white girl.

Eventually, it'll be like Rezko. The media and the right and Hillary tried to make it stick, and couldn't. This story won't stick either - a few idiot trolls will continue to try to bring it up, but nobody will care.
