March 13 (Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both propose significant changes to the tax code that would add to its complexity. His plan emphasizes income inequality, while hers seeks to change Americans' behavior.

Obama's proposal would shift the tax burden further toward the rich from low- and middle-income workers. Clinton proposes targeted tax breaks designed to change the way Americans use energy, save money and care for elders

6. I think we would like both a more equitable system and one that encourages the right behavior
I think we would like both a more equitable system and one that encourages the right behavior, like giving money to charities, investing in the disadvantaged, etc

encouraging saving, in a country with a negative savings rate, is a good thing; so is encouraging more responsible use of energy. At the same time, rolling back Bush's tax cuts on the top 1% of income earners is an absolute economic necessity, given the ruinous budget deficits and out-of-control national debt.

Although I'm not sure that any economic proposals, at this point, will WORK; we're in an economic death spiral and very probably headed for a depression for the first time in almost 80 years. The future is looking rather grim regardless of who gets elected.

It's unclear how sick the economy is, but alot still depends on how deep are the roots of the real estate bubble. There were a lot of speculators involved in the run up over many years, and I do not think they have been "shaken" out of the market yet.
