Campaigns court Edwards' Iowa delegates

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The battle for Iowa's Democratic delegates did not end with this year's caucuses. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue to skirmish for supporters of former rival John Edwards.

The Obama and Clinton campaigns will woo Edwards delegates Saturday at 99 Democratic county conventions in Iowa.

Both campaigns are expected to have paid staffers at the conventions. They also have been soliciting Edwards delegates the past few weeks via e-mails and telephone calls.

In this skin-tight nomination battle, every delegate counts. Edwards scored a second-place finish in Iowa's Jan. 3 caucuses, winning the equivalent of 14 national delegates.

"In a race that probably is going to be decided by 100 or less delegates, 14 is a big number," said Kate Gronstal, a Clinton delegate from Council Bluffs and daughter of State Sen. Mike Gronstal.

The county conventions are the second step in selecting delegates to attend the Democratic National Convention in August.

1. "In a race that probably is going to be decided by 100 or less delegates"
Not only does HRC have a problem with math, but her delegates do as well. They seem to be relying on the absolute best case scenario, where FL & MI are seated employing the results from those non-sactioned primaries and presuming her winning all the remaining contests by a substantial margin.
