This is a site where every crazy statement by Chavez gets defended.
This is a site where - by and large - Castro gets defended.
This is a site where - by and large - Che Guevera is a hero.
This is a site that eagerly fell for the Jesse MacBeth scam.
This is a site where any form of protest against a powered elite is considered the noblest calling.

But apparantly a preacher saying that black people may have had it rough in this country is a bridge too far.

Ah, good times.

28. So, you have never heard the comment "welcome to..'
in a form of irony?

I suppose this "newbie" has yet to learn how dense many DUers are when it comes to their tunnel vision.

3. You are correct, sir.
Virtually all the views espoused by Wright have been espoused on DU, in different forms.

He has fairly radical views, but not unusually so. These views might not be praised by all, but they certainly wouldn't be vilified.

5. You goddamn right.
No outrage like convenient outrage. And it's real convenient for one side of this primary fight.

This isn't a progressive board any more. This is fucking 'Lord Of The Flies.'

Vince Foster was right.

I'm gonna steal that quote.

GD P is FULL of convenient outrage, from "supporters" on both sides.

25. Campaign In Their Churches
Uh, yes. And I have no idea who is or was on their honorary (unpaid) advisory commissions which is hardly a top position in the campaign. Nor have I done a background check on each of them. Do you think we need to?

I agree that Wright will be a political problem for Obama. But the people acting like his words actually personally offend them are lying through their teeth.

26. I am offended. Personally. Lying through my teeth?
Wanna come tell me that face to face?

The issues Wright raised have been discussed here at length - whether 9/11 is the blowback of 30+ years of American foreign policy. I won't argue that it wasn't. But did the 3,000 Americans who died on 9/11 deserve it? Not just no but HELL TO THE NO.

Politically, even the blinded O-bot has to admit it's pretty fucking tone deaf to be put in the position of having to defend someone who says the USA deserved 9/11 and, just for good measure, GOD DAMN AMERICA. Nobody gets within 1000 miles of the White House like that. Will if affect Wright's alderman candidacy? Probably not, because that's a local race. If you can't see the difference, well, I question your judgment also.

Oh, by the way, I've been a loyal Dem for a long time and I've been here at DU since damn near the beginning, and I don't defend Chavez, Castro, et al., and I wouldn't in a million years defend Wright.

I could care less what the guy says. But he happens to be on his campaigna and is the longtime spiritual advisor.

So I guess I'm agreeing with you.

18. A lot of people on this site also have a big problem with his religious extremism.
A lot of us on here have a big issue with "Christian" extremists, as well a "Muslim" extremists. Radical views based on hatred are not anything I want to be associated with.

27. And where corporations are the evil forms, even though most of us, at some time
have been happy with good paying jobs, and benefits. Jobs that made us productive citizens, that allowed us to contribute to our states and federal income taxes that, among other things, fund many public projects, helping the poor, the sick, children and the elderly (though not at a level that most of us would prefer).

These jobs allowed us to fund our retirements so that we would not be a drag on the younger generations, and, of course, allowed us to contribute to worth causes like... DU.
