7. You know the one thing that I find particularly sobering about all this?
Bill Clinton and George Bush were the product of the Baby Boom years. If Obama is president, then the baby boom era is officially over, as far as presidential prospects are concerned. Unless we see another Ronnie in the future.

20. Yes...this has not been much remarked upon
But I think it's the dynamic of the campaign. Barack Obama is largely the choice of a younger generation who have up until now lived in the long shadow of the 60s (whether liberal or conservative). I think this is also why so many people are so angry about Iraq - it is so obviously the same sort of mistake we made going into Viet Nam, and the politicians of the boomer generation (plus McCain) seem to have been willing to make the same mistake all over again, with minor variations.

23. It's the relative size of their boxes, too
i.e. Obama's delegate critter is much bigger than Hillary's.

6. No, it's very smart -- if you're counting on virulent racism to hand you the nomination.

8. A very unfair cartoon
It harks back to 1992, when the Republicans, of all people, were trying to paint Bill Clinton as redneck yahoo.

Yeah, right, a redneck yahoo Rhodes scholar.

10. agreed
this cartoon is below the belt. But that's the way the Clinton campaign has been playing it, so I guess it's tit for tat.

9. while I understand the background for this cartoon well enough
I think it really reaches backward and perpetuates stereotypes. If the same line were used with say, regular looking lawyers and businesspeople it might not offend so much.

To me the reality is far worse than this cartoon. While Hillary & co would never admit to, or participate in overt racism, they are OK with letting it help them win an election. This is an even more insidious form of racism.

With Hillary herself I think it's more a tussle between the "Experienced" older woman and the whippersnapper, and she would like us to see it that way. But in not knocking back hard when the racist smears appear, she is giving them some sustenance.

16. The more I see cartoons of Hillary the more I'm reminded of racist cartoons from WWII
This Oliphant cartoon isn't the best example, but she's got the same way about her in a lot of caricatures.

Am I imagining this?

Excellent. Always love the little mouse-guy "Greek Chorus" in his cartoons.
