I don't give a damn about Hillary or Obama's religious choices
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 12:53 PM by Blue_Roses
Of all the petty things to be fighting about:eyes: Our country was founded on the right to worship the way we want. Let's face it, the whole stink about this "Wright" thing is based on YOUR personal opinion of the way YOU see God, Jesus, Satan, the bible, Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, "Blues Clues" or "Sex in the City". Whatever your chosen religion of worship happens to be--or not, determines how you respond.

Obama is not cramming these words down our throat, so any comparison to Bush and his fundies is moot.

The rest of what he said, "911, aids, etc." is fodder for thought.

1. I don't think anyone really cares who worships in what way or to whom...

The point is we've been harassed by Fundamentalist Christians attempting to force us to obey laws their own God chose NOT to force us to adhere to for a very long time. We don't need any more "leading from the pulpit". In fact, most of us are fucking pissed as hell at the mere mention of an inkling of a possibility of this happening.

It's not Hillary's choice, it's not Obama's choice. It's the choice of the USA not to be governed by a theocracy. That is what is feared will happen if any of our leaders live their lives too closely to what some dumbass preacher is saying.

They guy next door can worship in any damn church he chooses. He's not sitting with his hand on "The Button".

Look at GWB... hand on button and glorifying the apocalypse!

"The point is we've been harassed by Fundamentalist Christians attempting to force us to obey laws their own God chose NOT to force us to adhere to for a very long time. We don't need any more "leading from the pulpit"."

I can understand this and I agree. We have been bullied too long by Bush and his fundies. But the comparison stops there. I've never seen Obama state that he wanted to amend the constitution or any of the other bull Bush pushes for his fundies, to try and promote their agenda.

Sure, it's apples and oranges but still the comparison is vague. What gets me is, comments are made as if Obama had stood in that pulpit and shouted these things. Bush actually has said them.

19. I never said that!!! Jesus fucking Christ on a cracker!
Why are you hell bent on making this HRC vs. BHO??!?!???!?!?!

I don't care for either of them! I voted for Edwards before he threw in the towel! And I voted for Edwards because he was different from "The Other Two"!

"The Other Two" are HRC and BHO... and there isn't enough different about them to shake a stick at!

Keep your hideous hubris to yourself! I never said shit about Hillary being better than Obama in any way, ever, in any forum, not in person, not online... nowhere... never.

You are putting words in other people's mouths to support this invisible dialog you have going on in your own damn head. There was no reason to bring up Hillary. She reeks as badly as Obama!

Jeez!

Grow the fuck up and step the hell away from the fucking Kool Aid!!! You are poisoning yourself!!!

29. Yeah, he's really enabling him.

Ranting against Obama, when it was the preacher that was talking, then adding an aside of "oh, yeah, Hillary's bad too" isn't exactly equal opportunity dissing.

7. This is about character, and Obama's CHOICE of spiritual advisor.
He sat in the pew for over TEN years. Listening to that. Is this part of his strategy for "unity"??? To sit there and listen for all those years? If Obama decries those statements, I would have thought he would have at least DISCUSSED his views with Wright, tried to pursuade him not to spew racist slime.

Would YOU have been one of Wright's congregants for over TEN YEARS???

This speaks to Obama's character and AGAIN to his questionable choice of advisors. Again, I ask.... what kind of people is he going to appoint in the White House? And since he continued to send this church money EVERY YEAR (his largest charitable donations), doesn't that suggest he felt okay enough about what was said?

Peel the blinders off, people. This is serious.

Jesus was a Black man? (will that help "unify" Jews?)
The nation is run by "rich, white people"? (will that help "unify" the rich White people and the African Americans, Hispanics, Asians...?)
Etc.

10. Very, very well said...
He claims to speak of unity... but the only thing I see in his words is divisiveness.

Jesus, the King of the Jews was black??? Oy vey!

Rich White People... that is pretty disgusting... sure, we're all rich, right? We're all hell bent on keeping the black man down... let's tell all our kids this so they don't waste their time trying to make something of themselves... I feel the same about that comment as I did when I was a kid and some of the black kids from school came to hear me sing with the youth choir... and a couple of the church elders made those kids feel... well, let's just say, less than welcome... disgusting... Fucking heinously disgusting. My church elder was a racist, so is Brother Wright. That pendulum swings in both directions and it reeks.

Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 02:16 PM by Juniperx
Why should this be part of a sermon? Why should people, especially young people, be constantly told that this is the way it is and it's always been that way? Why isn't it better to say there are corrupted rich PEOPLE at the top, and we need to educate ourselves and TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!!??!

His statement is horrifically divisive and negative... mine says the same but in a positive, non-racial, non-stereotypical way.

Why is it any better to further white stereotypes than it is to further black or brown?
