Gallup: Obama Ahead Of Hillary By 6 Points
By Eric Kleefeld - March 14, 2008, 1:16PM

Today's Gallup tracking poll shows Barack Obama extending a small lead into a significant one. Here are the numbers, compared to yesterday:

Obama 50% (+2)
Clinton 44% (-2)

Meanwhile, the two Democrats both tie John McCain in the general election match-ups:

Obama (D) 45%, McCain (R) 45%
Clinton (D) 46%, McCain (R) 46%

Rasmussen has Obama ahead by 8 points in daily tracking - also at 50%:

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Friday, March 14, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Barack Obama leading Hillary Clinton 50% to 42% in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination (see recent daily results). This is the first time Obama has ever reached 50% in fifteen months of daily polling on the race. Among African-American voters, Obama leads 84% to 9%. Among White voters, Clinton leads 50% to 39%. Two-thirds of voters who now support Clinton are women. Among white women Clinton leads by twenty-five. In Pennsylvania, Clinton leads 51% to 38%.

The General Election is essentially tied no matter who the Democrats nominate. It’s McCain 45% Obama 44% and McCain 46% Clinton 44% (see recent daily results). In both match-ups, McCain enjoys more unified support from Republicans than his opponents do from Democrats. A Rasmussen Reports look at the race suggests that John McCain may be the luckiest man on the planet since Ringo Starr. Both McCain and Starr were in the right place at the right time and everything broke their way. The question now is will McCain’s luck last until November.

3. Didn't Obama use to lead McCain in the GE matchup polls?
And Clinton use to be behind McCain?

4. My mistake---They both were shown ahead of McCain a few days ago
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 01:41 PM by goodgd_yall
And with a 2% moe it actually means there's not much change in the GE matchup results.

11. Earlier they were ahead by more -
Obama by 12 and HRC by 6. That is enormous movement favoring McCain - thanks HRC!

16. The only value these polls have is to tell us that Obama has a shot in November.
We just need to make sure we carry him over the finish line. A lot can change between now and then, so the ups and downs aren't important. What is clear is that Americans are open-minded about choosing Obama and that's good enough for me right now.

13. Now we know the reason for all the Pastor Wright stuff.
The internal polling must be showing the same thing. Obama is probably closing the gap in PA. Instead of all the news shows talking about Obama hitting 50%, it will be about this Wright guy.

20. This surge isn't yet apparent in the pollser.com poll averages
Pollster's graphs still indicate a leveling-off for Obama, and an upward trend for Clinton.

Hillary flails and smears and Obama stays cool.
