now is a good time to give to the John Kerry campaign
After the convention, in late June, Kerry will be running on $74 million in federal funds, not donations.

If you're planning to give to the John Kerry campaign, now would be a good time.

2. Why?
Not selling enough ketchup these days? Don't get me wrong, but candidates with a bankroll as big as his, should not be asking for contributions.

3. .
There's a legal limit to how much he can donate to his own campaign.

I have to wonder though whether he broke any laws when he sold one of his houses to finance his primary fight.

4. Ahh.
For some reason I thought Ross Perot funded his own campaign. Then again, I have slept a couple of times since then.

Yes. The Supreme Court has ruled that a rich man can spend as much of his own money on his campaign as he wants.

The theory is thatthere is no appearance of someone else influencing a politician who spends his own money.

But John Kerry can't spend his wife's money; Theresa Heinz has to follow the same limits as any other rich person who wants to contribute to a campaign.

No, he can spend as much of his individual money as he so chooses.

However, Theresa Heinz can only contribute $2,000 directly.

Kerry and his wife keep their money separate.

John Kerry can spend his own money, but he can't spend his wife's money.

While John Kerry is a rich individual, he isn't super-rich because his wife's money is kept separate.
