“The Obama camp. couldn't immediately say whether he'd [Wright] remain on the committee.”
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 01:25 PM by rodeodance

I know Obama had a response early today----but given the large amt of msn coverage-----Wonder what is next to come??

Recap:
Samantha Powers has left the O. camp because of a rude outlandish rant.
Maxim Thorne—a member of O. camp GLBT committee resigned a few days for Rovian-style emails he was sending out to blogs. (see below).

And yes, G. Ferraro resigned from the Clinton camp.

March 13, 2008

Wright's committee

Jeremiah Wright, in the news today because video of a sermon (parts of which had been reported, and disavowed, before) adds some heat to the discussion of his relationship with Obama, has generally been described as connected to Obama only informally — a religious figure with whom Obama has said he disagrees at times, a kind of cranky uncle.

But he also has a formal role on the campaign.

Wright is a member of Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee — the sort of largely honorary, advisory body that in recent days has recently been used mostly to throw people off who say controversial things.

The Obama campaign couldn't immediately say whether he'd remain on the committee.

Thorne had to resign today from Obamateam: Another Yalie Embarrasses Obama

2maxim_031108_fresh.jpg

Another Barack Obama adviser had to resign today after making incendiary statements about Hillary Clinton. Maxim Thorne, formerly a chief at the Human Rights Campaign and, until today, a member of Obama's Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/ Transgender Leadership Council, recently e-mailed a lengthy anti-Clinton screed that began by declaring Clinton "a disaster for the Democratic Party" and went on to question Hillary's whereabouts "when Monica was having sex with Bill" and assert that ……" Thorne resigned almost immediately after the e-mail surfaced…….

(who probably has done more good in his life than bad) is seriously going to damage him. WAKE UP OBAMA, if you want to fucking win, then throw this guy down! Honestly, I think Hillary was right when she said he needed to be more forceful about denouncing these controversial ppl from his life. He needs more white votes than black votes.

23. I have to say I'm very disappointed in Obama for not throwing this guy under the bus
Does he want to win or what? I think Obama executed very poor judgement on Wright given his extremely inflammatory statements. Having said that, I still strongly support Obama and only hope that he wakes up and disowns Wright. He is kidding himself if he thinks this is not going to seriously damage his winning in November. I'm very disappointed.

36. yes, I do think BO needs to disassociate Wright from his campaging--not from his
being his pastor--that is a private matter--although with the msm on this now.it could be a problem also

Subject: Clinton lies and sleaze
Hillary Clinton is a disaster for the democratic party. Now she prefers McCain to Obama. Now we know it was SHE who told the Canadian government that her railings against NAFTA were political posturing. It was not Barack's campaign!

We cannot tolerate her lies and stolen election.

Time for all of us democratics to wake up to this disgusting turn. As democratics this should affirm the end of her campaign.

At 3am, Hillary said she and Bill were in bed and she knows of all the calls a President gets at different times of the day and night. Really? So much involvement - so much togetherness. Where was she when Monica was having sex with Bill? 35 years of experience? When he was intimidating Katherine Wiley and Paula Jones? Where was the judgment on the cattle futures and white water. Do we forget Mark and Denise Rich? This was an impeached President who lost his licence to practice law. He committed perjury. They settled with Paula Jones for the full amount of her lawsuit. I haven't forgotten and none of us should.

I remember the scandal when the Clintons' bags were searched when they left the White House and they had to return historic artifacts and gifts.

When Bin Laden was building Al Qaeda, Bill and she were fighting impeachment, fighting Paula Jones, fighting Katherine Wiley.

Please, we are going down a nasty road with a nasty, secretive and proven lying Clinton. We should all want to see her tax returns, I want to see her White House emails. Let really send this candidate what she deserves: the spotlight on her vetting. She says she's been vetted. Partly true and it's not pretty what came out.

What still has to be vetted are her tax returns, her White House performance (we already know her disasterous failure on healthcare), her WH emails, the donations to the Clinton Foundation and library etc.

Time to moveon again. Obama is the only credible candidate who can move on beyond this continuing nasty dynasty of Clinton and Bushes.

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail

A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail. The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.
Rose, a Jones County coordinator, was forced out last week after the campaign learned that she'd forwarded a similar e-mail.
But On Call has obtained a copy of the email, which shows that a third Clinton volunteer staffer, Iowa County Coordinator Linda Yoder, was also on the e-mail chain.

Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said Yoder, who is also on the Women's Leadership Council for Hillary, did not notify the campaign about the e-mail, but she did not forward it to anyone. Olson sent Yoder the e-mail on Oct. 5. The campaign did not learn of it until this weekend, Elleithee said.

72. The best thing he can do is reject him but that can only mitigate the problem
It was been seen as politically motivated and have little value. Basically only those disposed to Obama will accept it. It will not help with swing voters. You can't just erase 20 years of endorsing a bigot--in stark contrast to your public rhetoric about "unity" and "moving beyond race"--who brought you to Christianity, is your mentor, was your pastor, married you, baptized your kids, inspired your book, and serves as the guiding light to you morally. The fact is if Obama is who he claims to be, a uniter, he would have disassociated himself from this bigoted nut, not when he was forced to do so politically but two decades ago...

89. He is naive. He should have pre-empted this by denouncing him earlier
That would have given it some significant. If he does it now everyone will see it as transparently political.

91. I really do not think the media gives a hoot how they have given him a pass--they
just move on to the next thing--which at the moment is wright and his association with BO. The RW will have new ammo now that is for sure.

Overall, it is NOT good for the Dem. party as a whole either!

Seems like a mistake to me, even if it is just a meaningless advisory role, why not cut whatever ties do exist between Wright and the campaign?
