but what happens at the convention if neither obama or clinton have the delegates to win and the superdelegates do not move from their side for fear of an implosion or walk out?

2. A dark horse gets the nomination |

Edwards maybe, or Gore, or Richardson, or somebody we're not thinking of yet.

That's what they're there for.
This notion of the popular vote in the primaries and caucuses determining the nominee is a relatively recent innovation.

10. And say hello to President McCain. |

There is only 9 weeks between convention and election. Nine weeks to put together a campaign staff, offices around the country, state and local workers, a message, TV Spots, effective defense to the inevitable swiftboat attacks, and do the other things like debate... not to mention raise money. Lots of money.
This might have worked in the past... but not in the modern campaign era.

4. There are currently 300+ uncommitted SDs... they will commit to SOMEONE at the convention in.. |
|
the first vote.
The only way that neither of them reaches 2024 is if Edwards' 26 delegates make a difference.
You could have something like:
Obama 2011 Clinton 2011 Edwards 26
It's pretty close to impossible that, once the 300+ SDs commit, neither of them have 2024.

11. If it looks to be close (and it does) |
|
it's been rumored that many uncommitted will suddenly find that they have "pressing personal issues" and won't even attend the convention.
