Obama has little choice with this "Rev" crap ......
Disclaimer: I'm not a supporter of either of our candidates. I often comment negatively about both of them. I will vote for - and probably work/campaign for - either of them when the nominee is chosen.

This Rev Wright flap will not go away and will not play well in the general election campaign. It will scare the crap out of more than a few white people (sorry to "inject race" into this, but we all know that's a fact). The way what was said was said, and the subject matter are both of concern and are tailor made for a top notch smear campaign in the GE. Its all there on video.

I can't see any way out for Obama short of throwing the good reverend under the campaign bus. He needs to do it loud and long, too. This can NOT be allowed to stand and fester into the General Election campaign season.

Flame away, Obamanians ......

I think she's been pushing a lot of crap down the road and has, in fact, both race and gender baited.

As has your guy.

Do you agree?

33. You're in denial
This is every bit as big to Obama as the swiftboat ads were to Kerry.

And (not surprisingly) Kerry supporters said almost EXACTLY THE SAME THINGS as I'm seeing on these threads. How Obama deals with the damage control here will decide whether he's either the nomineee- or the president.

And much faster than Kerry did.

Maybe it's time for some Dems to stop trying to make hay out this issue and helping the Reps.

I agree 100% with this post. I've seen it firsthand with my co-workers, believing what they see on cable news, national enquirer etc. It must be loudly debunked by Obama and his supporters.

9. Throwing the good reverend under the campaign bus isn't a win, either.
Casting off someone who's been a mentor, and so important in his family, makes him look like just any other politician.

This is what happens when you want to be friends with everyone. Eventually, there's going to be a friend
who is going to cause you more harm than good.

The Democrats can go toe to toe with THEIR over the top preachers.

I largely agree with Wright. But, for the mainstream, the Democrats have so much more on theirs.

20. It dioesn't matter .... like it or not, he and event hat fatass Fallwell, are seen as 'mainstream'
A black preacher, in many quarters, is not seen the same way.

I'm not bothered by it, but to deny that many whites are frightened by it is to delude oneself.

22. So, what we're talking about is racism?
A black pastor can't hit the same notes as a
white one?

At some point, we need to deal with that and decide where we come down.

25. Perhaps Rev. Wright will resign quietly sometime in July for personal or health reasons.
That will look less like Obama is throwing him under the bus, but the Rev. won't be around for the GE, taking one attack point away from the repukes.

It might not anger Obama's supporters as much, either, if done quietly and with dignity during a month when only die-hards think about politics rather than enjoying the summer.

Anything less than that, will never be believed in the GE.

28. You're right. This will become an issue in the GE if he doesn't negate it now.
Besides Hillary Clinton, the only other thing RWers fear in the whitehouse is an angry black man (like Al Sharpton.) The repugs will play wright 24/7 to get their base out. Obama needs to negate this NOW.

36. That will be hard. Wright's not just "a" pastor, he's "his" pastor
There are many pastors in America and many congregations, but Wright is Obama's pastor who led the congregation Obama belonged to for many years. It's not the same as Obama having to renounce a suporter who shares a religious faith with Obama. Obama chose to stay in this specific congregation for many years knowing this pastor well, he can't simply disown him now. Plenty of people change congregations for lots of reasons, disagreements with a pastor being one of them. Few will believe that Obama didn't know that his pastor believed what he preached in that sermon. If he knew but stayed in the congregation anyway it just looks worse for Obama to break with Wright now seemingly out of political expediency; it won't be convincing.
